"You don't deserve your wages!" Watford 3 Leeds 0
Wednesday, 9th Apr 2014 20:11

Massimo Cellino watched on as Leeds crashed to their eighth defeat in nine games, however whilst our new owner kept his composure the frustrated Leeds fans vented their anger on their failures in white shirts proclaiming they didnt deserve their wages.

Despite the fruitlessness of it all, at least the 3500 fans who bothered to show up at Wigan saw a battling performance of types at the weekend. Fast forward 72 hours to Vicarage Road, Leeds must have left Cellino thinking what he had let himself in for particularly as he had settled the outstanding money the players were owed just hours after arriving in England from his Florida home.

The fans clearly wondered why they had bothered!

Watford took an embarrassingly easy 2-0 lead into the break, there is a train of thought amongst Leeds fans that on the rare occasions that Brian McDernott has been given money to spend he has wasted it and unfortunately Scott Wootton is evidence of this. The ex Manchester United starlet was exposed by getting caught short allowing Almen Abdi to opening the scoring for the Hornets on 9 minutes.

Ikechi Anya made it two with a header on 31, Anya had a hand in the build up to Abdi's goal bad ths time Abdi turned provider with a deep cross Anya buried past Butland.

In December Leeds managed to claw themselves back from 2-0 down against Watford, but on 68 minutes Troy Deeney skipped through the trailing Leeds defence to grab his 21st of the season again with ease.

McDermott admitted after the game he was someone under pressure, really as well as the result his team could not have performed any worse under the watching brief of their new owner who surely now realise the size of the task he has on at Elland Road.

However it appears that Cellino is willing to work with McDermott until the season ends at the very least. With fellow Sardinian and ex Watford boss Gianfranco Zola's agent ruling his client out of the Leeds job now and next season, it appears we are stuck with the likeable but out of his depth Reading boss until 2013/14 comes to a bitter conclusion.
