Interview with a Shayman
Monday, 14th Jul 2014 14:00 by Col

With Dale making the short journey over the Pennines on Tuesday evening, we've spoke to a couple of their fans to find out what they've been up to over the last few years.

1) Who are ya and how long have you supported the Shaymen? Lee Casalino, supporter for 16 years

2) Best moment / player / manager from that time Playoff semi final win vs Grays in 2006 is my fondest moment / Jamie Paterson / Neil Aspin

3) Worst moment / player / manager from that time Going out of business in 2008 / Tom Harban, right back from Barnsley. Only substitute I've ever seen subbed back off for tactical reasons / Paul Bracewell crippled the club in 2000 with overpaid past their best journeymen.

4) Are Town ready for a return to the Football League? 13 years outside of the League is too long! Off the field we're in the best position I've known. The step up to full time would be the biggest hurdle but the board wanted promotion last season so I guess we're ready.

5) What's the worst thing about playing outside of the Football League? There's not much difference between League 2 and the Conference really. There's plenty of 'traditional' league teams in the Conference with good grounds and good support. That said it's easy to be brought down to earth with an away day at Alfreton. I guess the worst thing is simply not having the 'label'of being a league club.

6) You've got a couple of our old boys in your squad in Pearson and Maynard. How are they doing? Vital to our success last season and will be again this season. Pearson is an absolute machine, Maynard (captain this season) is composed and skillful. Both could play in the Football League.

7) Obvously Scott Hogan has been a massive part of our success over the past twelve months. Was there ever any signs of his potential when he was with you? He never got much of a chance as our other strikers were on fire. Looked good but nothing to suggest he'd do as well as he has. Just don't think we saw enough of him.

8) How's life for you sharing your ground with a Rugby League team? It could take weeks to answer that question! It has it's issues and recently a director of the rugby club made an (unsuccessful) bid to buy the stadium from the council. It galvanised the football fans to oppose private ownership whilst the rugby fans were all for it, seemingly oblivious to the potential risks. It's driven a massive wedge between the clubs' fans, although the relationship has never been a particularly good one.

9) Were Barnsley up to much when you played them on Saturday? Didn't look anything at all and deserved to lose the game. They put a strong team out too.

10) No point predicting a friendly score, but what's your predictions for Halifax's season? Difficult question. Did we over achieve last season? Will the loss of top scorer Lee Gregory to Millwall be major factor or will the new strikers we've brought in fill his boots? I'm going to predict a play off push once again!

1) Who are ya and how long have you supported the Shaymen? moodyb1 / 45 - 50 years

2) Best moment / player / manager from that time too many too choose from ;) although paul hendrie (with help from ex-dale bob mountford) putting man city and big mal to the sword in1980 is up there / big bill atkins / george mullhall (neil aspin getting close.....)

3) Worst moment / player / manager from that time may 2008, liquidation of halifax town afc. laws of libel prohibit answers to the other 2 parts

4) Are Town ready for a return to the Football League? you bet

5) What's the worst thing about playing outside of the Football League? being patronised by clubs we still think of as rivals from the old days

6) You've got a couple of our old boys in your squad in Pearson and Maynard. How
are they doing?
awesome

7) Obvously Scott Hogan has been a massive part of our success over the past twelve
months. Was there ever any signs of his potential when he was with you?
possibly but hard to say as jamie vardy put everyone else in the shade at the time

8) How's life for you sharing your ground with a Rugby League team? we do?

9) Were Barnsley up to much when you played them on Saturday? they were about a match for us

10) No point predicting a friendly score, but what's your predictions for Halifax's season? more progress towards the ultimate goal of a return to the football league
