Gylfi Will Be One Of The Signings Of The Season

When the dust settles on the Premier League season that opened yesterday I am convinced that one of the signings of the season will be hailed as Gylfi Sigurddson after his assist and goal second debut for the Swans yesterday at Old Trafford.

Gylfi returned to the club yesterday after a successful loan spell in 2012 that saw the Swans almost sealing an immediate return for the player which eventually fell through after the departure of Brendan Rodgers to Liverpool.

But after two seasons at Spurs, Gylfi returned this season in what I think will turn out to be our best bit of business certainly this year but possibly even since we made the step up to the Premier League.

Whichever way you look at it Gylfi fits perfectly into our side and the way that we play. His link up play with the midfield and the front man is perfect and in 20 games he has 7 games which shows that there are plenty of goals in him.

Factor in as well that he takes a brilliant set piece and you have the player that most clubs cry out for in their line up.

His part in setting up Ki for the first goal yesterday was brilliant (added to Bony's block on Jones) and he was on hand to finish the move that was the second goal where many other players would have not been anywhere near keeping up with the play. Ask yourself how many times we have not been in the box for the loose ball over the past few seasons and you know what I mean.

We will probably never know how much Gylfi cost is in the transfer triple move that saw Ben and Vorm heading the other way but whatever it was it is clear value for money as yesterday's game proved.

Thoughts immediately turn now to next week's game and more of the same from Gylfi - I'm off to check the odds on first goalscorer right now!

“It doesn’t feel like I’ve been away long,” said Gylfi. “It’s been easy to come back and fit in straight away.

“The team did ever so well today, defensively and the shape of the team was fantastic.

“Now we have another game next week, and another three points would set us up for a really good start.”
