Charlton 2 Blackpool 2

Another small step towards that 50 point mark which still seems a long way away but closer than it was before Lee Clark took over. At least when you're drawing you're not losing but the Blackpool manager will know that his side has to start turning 1 point in to 3 sooner or later if they're to avoid the drop. A creditable 2-2 draw at the Valley edges them closer to that goal.

Report from BasilRobbie: The Valley is one of my favourite venues, even if we have a pretty lousy record there ; a modern looking stadium with an old-fashioned feel, especially around the away end where the surround has a feeling of benign neglect.

I thought the start of the game was pretty OK really - we were tidy, without doing anything very dangerous. They were struggling for any kind of fluency and very ponderous in their approach play. Murphy forced a decent save out of their keeper from a free kick, but it was a bit of a surprise when the opening goal came. Poor defending by them, but no complaint from us.

They were galvanised by the goal, and the equaliser came the very first time they got the ball forward quickly and got in behind us. Having said that, I've watched the incident back on the TV and still don't see a foul. Half time came at a good time for us, but they came out of the blocks quickly in the second half and the second goal wasn't a surprise. What was a surprise was how badly we defended the situation, giving the scorer far too much time to pick his spot.

Our response was urgent, but not especially convincing. I'm not sure the substitutions helped us that much, except maybe in our physical presence. Watching Delfouneso lumber about really does make me yearn for GTF, and he was asked to play far too deep for me.

It took another set piece to score, and a very brave header from a man who has already had one serious injury in his career but was willing to risk another in the cause. I'm pleased for him, and hope it shuts a few people up for a little while at least.

A good result then, but an unconvincing performance that lacked real creativity, even if the spirit and fight was good. We'll have to be a lot better than that next week.
