Monk Happy With Goalkeeping Strength

Garry Monk is a happy man after adding more strength to the depth of his squad with the capture yesterday of Swedish international goalkeeper Kristoffer Nordfeldt.

Nordfeldt became the third signing of Monk's summer yesterday following the capture of Andre Ayew and Franck Tabanou and he is now assembling a squad where there is serious competition for places in every position.

Focus will now surely turn to finishing the squad off with the addition of at least one new striker ahead of the new season but Monk is happy with his latest capture and the additional strength it gives his squad

“Goalkeeper is an area we wanted to strengthen and the arrival of Kristoffer will increase the competition in the squad; something I’m always looking for.

“He has played international football and Swansea City and the Premier League is the next step for him domestically. He already has all the attributes to play in the Premier League, which is what I’m looking for, yet he also has plenty of potential to keep improving.

“Lukasz (Fabianski) had a fantastic season last year and it is going to be a challenge for Kristoffer. He has to try and claim the number one spot and, having spoken to him at length, I know he is focussed on that challenge.

“Just as important, he wants that challenge. He wants to prove himself at the next level and play Premier League football.”

Last season it was pretty much a clear run for Fabianski in the Swans goal with Gerhard Tremmel only ever considered when absolutely needed but you do see this season some extra competition for places and that can only benefit us as a team and long may that continue
