Monk Pleased With Training Camp Progress

Garry Monk will watch his side get back into match action tomorrow when they play the first of their pre-season games in Germany but for now he is happy with the way things have gone on the first two days of the tour.

Monk has a fully fit squad with him in Germany and having praised last years pre-season preparations so fully at the end of the season he must be even more pleased to find that the regime is working well again as he looks to build on the record breaking run of last time around.

Monk - in his first full season of management - led the Swans to 8th place in the Premier League with 56 points against the predictions of many pundits who thought that the Swans would struggle under their rookie manager.

In fairness to him he has never gloated at how wrong they were but it must be tempting sometimes to throw the words back down people's throats but for now he focuses clearly on the job in hand and the preparation for the season opener at Chelsea in under four weeks time.

Speaking to the club's official You Tube channel Monk said "We arrived on Sunday, did a double session on Monday and now the morning session today and it's gone really really well.

"The double session yesterday was crucial with the physical work in the morning and the tactical work in the afternoon.

"The two weeks that we had back at Landore were brilliant. The players did really well and the base level of fitness is excellent. The games coming up this week will bring on the match fitness

"We sat down in the summer and planned the pre-season and what we wanted to get out of it and what we wanted the players to get out of it. It's all part of the plan and at the moment, touch wood, there's been no problems"

The Swans open their matches tomorrow with a game against Champions League qualifiers Borussia Monchengladbach in Grassau before facing German second-tier team 1860 Munich at the Grunwalder Stadion on Saturday.
