Leeds United - Whites seal another transfer deal; new signing says he'll give 100% and more
Thursday, 18th Aug 2016 14:34 by Lucas Monk

Leeds United have today completed the signing of Torino's 25 year-old centre-back Pontus Jansson. The Swedish international, who has eight caps to his name, has moved to Elland Road on a season-long loan.

The six-foot-five centre-back becomes the Whites' tenth signing of the summer, taking shirt number 18.

“It feels really good to be here,” Jansson told leedsunited.com. “I heard about three or four days ago that Leeds were interested and I spoke to the coaches.

"I know Pep well from my time with Malmo in Sweden two or three years ago — he’s a good person and a good coach. I’m looking forward to working with him again. “I need to play football regularly and I know that Leeds are a big club with big ambitions — they also have a lot of fans in Sweden, so I’m really happy to be here.

"I know the club has a lot of tradition — they won the league in 1992 and I know about the really good team with the likes of Mark Viduka and Harry Kewell. I’m going to learn even more in the coming days!

"I want to help take Leeds back to the Premier League as soon as possible. I’m an aggressive defender and I always give more than 100% for the team that I play for."

Jansson spent five years with Malmo in Sweden before making the switch to Torino in 2014. He made nine appearances in all competitions last season for Toro, scoring one goal.

Torino have an embarrassment of riches with regards to central defensive options, with Nikola Maksimovic, Arland Ajeti, Emiliano Moretti, and Cesare Bovo all currently under contract at Olimpico. This may explain the reason for Jansson's switch to West Yorkshire.

Loaning club Torino have also confirmed that Leeds have the option to make the deal permanent.
