LEON! LEON! It's A New Contract For Britton

Leon Britton has signed the contract that effectively will see him end his playing day's at the Liberty as he put pen to paper on a one year extension that will see him contracted until the summer of 2018.

Britton - who first arrived at Swansea back in 2002, said it was one of the easiest decisions he has had to make and means he will get the chance to continue a remarkable career that has already seen him make more than 500 appearances for the Swans.

When he arrived on loan from West Ham back in December 2002 few would have predicted at that time that Britton would have gone on to represent the club in all four divisions but that is the legend that he has become and a new contract is the latest reward for that career and, as the player himself says, the 13th he has signed since joining the club

It did look all over for Britton and Swansea a little over twelve months ago as he looked to be on his way out of the club but he fought his way into contention last season and started this season with the captain's armband following the departure of Ashley Williams to Everton.

“Signing the extension was a very easy decision, like most of my contracts at Swansea have been,” Britton said.

“I spoke to the chairman and said if you are happy to have me, let’s just keep the same terms. I think it’s one of the easiest contracts the club have ever drawn up.

“If you include the loan deals when I first came, I have now signed 13 contracts at Swansea.

“You never know, there might be a 14th - it’s down to me to try to prove I can still do a job.

“Getting up to 600 appearances for the club might be a big ask, but you have always got to have targets.

“Getting to 500 was a big thing for me. Now I would say I want to reach 550 and then I will go from there.

“If I can reach 600 that would be great, but I don’t think there are too many players who have got to 550, so that would be great achievement.”

With 514 appearances in the bag for the club, Britton definitely has in his sights the 586 made by Wilf Milne
