Monk: "New Leeds structure just wasn't for me" Monday, 12th Jun 2017 21:30 by @markmonk Garry Monk has opened up a little bit more on his shock departure from Leeds as he was unveiled as Middlesbrough's new Manager on Monday. Just shy of three-weeks since he left Elland Road, Garry Monk has unsurprisingly turned up on Teesside to take the reigns at freshly relegated Middlesbrough. The 38-year-old who failed to take Leeds to the play-offs after surrendering an 11-point-cushion was inevitably asked about his one-year tenure at Leeds and his un timely departure and rejection of the one-year activation clause in his contract Monk told the Northern Echo: "I don`t want to get into details out of respect to Leeds. Having gone there and worked with Massimo (Cellino), when Andrea (Radrizzani) came in it was a new ownership and a new structure. 'I sat down and discussed with Leeds what that new structure would be, and to be honest it wasn`t right for me. There were things that didn`t suit me, so I made that decision. So the next process was to find the right challenge and tick the boxes I needed." Monk may have a point on the seemingly continental structure new owner Radrizzani appears to favour. However it will cut no ice with the majority of Leeds fans who see his departure an an act of betrayal. Without a shadow of a doubt Monk will be handed a vastly superior transfer budget at the Riverside as well as an increased weekly salary. In my opinion, it was a tragedy all round. I still can't understand why Radrizzani didn't offer Monk an out and out three-year deal rather than faff about with activating the extention clause and then think about offering the former Swansea boss a longer deal. However we have no other alternative but to move on and forget about him, well until our paths cross next season when undoubtedly he will get a torrid reception from the majority of Leeds supporters!
