Thomas Christiansen set to be unveiled as Leeds United head coach
Thursday, 15th Jun 2017 13:06 by @LucasMonk_

In what could be aptly described as a bizarre act, Leeds United appear to have determined a successor to Garry Monk in the form of former Bochum striker Thomas Christiansen.

It has been reputed by BBC Radio Leeds that the ex-Spain international is close to concluding a deal that will see him lead the Whites into the forthcoming season.

The 44-year-old is an inexperienced figure, a fact that may elicit doubt from United supporters at this moment, though he has excelled during his brief time in management.

After serving as Al Jazira's assistant manager in 2013, a successful two years at the helm of AEK Larnaca earned him managerial post at APOEL Nicosia, a behemoth of the Cypriot game.

Last season saw Christiansen fulfill domestic expectations by steering the club to the league title, in addition to presiding over a mettlesome charge into the latter stages of the UEFA Europa League, leading the club to the last 16 of the competition for the first time in their history.

In spite of his achievements, he was not offered an extension to his one-year contract and was thus released by APOEL. Incidentally, he left the club on the same date that Garry Monk tendered his resignation and departed Elland Road.

Though he had never been a favourite to succeed the aforementioned Monk, Christiansen will doubtless have no qualms regarding collaboration with United's director of football, Victor Orta, having previously worked with Xavier Roca during his stay with Larnaca.
