Wiedwald arrival casts doubt over future of three

Felix Wiedwald's arrival has cast doubt upon the future of Leeds United's three senior keepers.

Bremen custodian Wiedwald, a former German U20's Starlet has joined on a three-year deal for a transfer-fee reportedly in the region of £500,000.

His arrival however will cast doubt on the future of find three registered keepers already on the books at Elland Road.

Last seasons first choice Rob Green earned a one-year extension to the deal he signed last summer. However the former England man, 37, is rumoured to be earning £15,000 a week which would be a lot to pay a back up keeper.

Marco Silvestre was the fall-guy following Green's arrival. The Italian keeper was restricted to a handful of cup appearances last season in the domestic cup competitions under Garry Monk and vowed to be on his way if he couldn't dislodge Green, who had an inspired season in the twilight of his career.

Then there's Bailey Peacock-Farrel, a former Middlesbrough youngster who made just one appearance at the back end of the 2015/16 season. He signed a new deal last summer but hasn't made the breakthrough expected.

My gut-feeling is Silvestre will make way, there were rumours that Bologna wanted him. As one of the infamous "Charlton Five" who suddenly withdrew with injury ahead of a trip to the Valley, his stock did fall amongst fans and he was prone to the odd gaffe but he was in inspired form in last-seasons dramatic fourth-round penalty shoot-out against Norwich.

As for who gets the number one jersey, that decision remains with Thomas Christensen but my feeling is Green's experience will get him the nod over the new man.
