Andy Lonergan poised for Leeds United return, Toumani Diagouraga is released

The Wolverhampton Wanderers goalkeeper, now 33, is anticipated to re-sign for Leeds United on Monday while midfielder Diagouraga has been released from his contract.

Transfer dealings continue in West Yorkshire.

Andy Lonergan is poised to make a surprising return to Elland Road, with Leeds United news aggregators inundated with rumours indicating that Rob Green, who was a permanent fixture between the sticks for United throughout the entirety of last season's league campaign, could move to newly-promoted Huddersfield Town.

Phil Hay of the Yorkshire Evening Post has stated that Green's departure for Huddersfield - who were promoted to the Premier League last season following a defeat of Reading in the play-off final - is "looking likely" and that Lonergan had been expeditiously identified as a replacement for the former England stopper, 37, by the Leeds management.

Hay considers that, should all go to plan, Lonergan will complete his transfer from West Midlands outfit Wolverhampton Wanderers - for whom he has played since 2016 - on Monday.

Lonergan is no stranger to Elland Road, having sported the colours of United in the 2011-12 season - he was signed in the summer of 2011 as a replacement for Kasper Schmeichel, after the former departed for Leicester City for a fee of £1,200,000.

Furthermore, Leeds United confirmed the termination of midfielder Toumani Diagouraga's contract earlier today. The Frenchman, although a first-team regular under the tutelage of former United manager Steve Evans, had made just one appearance for Leeds last season before seeing out the remainder of the campaign on loan at Ipswich Town.
