Leeds United: Whites to loan striker who had a recent trial with Swansea City

Leeds United are to secure an additional player for their burgeoning development squad, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

Oliver Šarkić, a British-born forward who has represented Montenegro's Under-21 team, is poised to sign for Leeds United on loan until the end of December.

Leeds have already captured the signatures of Real Madrid striker Ousama Siddiki and Barcelona defender Oriol Rey, in addition to several other players poached from overseas, and the proposed loan move of Šarkić to Elland Road received international clearance ahead of the recent transfer deadline.

Despite being born in Linconshire, Šarkić began his career with Belgian behemoth RSC Anderlecht - he would spend eight years with the club before moving to Portugal's SL Benfica in 2014. Since then, he has appeared frequently for Benfica B in the Portuguese LigaPro; to date, Šarkić has made 44 appearances for the team, scoring on five occasions.

Šarkić spent the latter part of the recent 2016-17 season on loan at AD Fafe, for whom he made 19 appearances and scored twice. In July, the player underwent a trial with Premier League club Swansea City. He appeared for the Swans in two friendly fixtures against Glentoran and Cliftonville, but was not offered a contract.

The capture of the forward, who is the brother of Aston Villa goalkeeper Matija Šarkić, is expected to be announced in the coming days and he will most certainly be assigned to United's development squad - who have not yet won a match this season under the management of former Villarreal assistant Carlos Corberan.
