Leeds United: Loan forward Lasogga in contention for Whites debut
Wednesday, 6th Sep 2017 17:50 by @LucasMonk_

On Saturday, German forward Pierre-Michel Lasogga may well have a Leeds United debut conferred upon him - in spite of the imminent arrival of his first child.

Lasogga - who acceded to a season-long loan deal from Bundesliga outfit Hamburger SV on transfer deadline day - has stated that he will be present at Elland Road on Saturday, irrespective of the possibility that his partner may give birth at the same time.

The couple's child is due to be born on Sunday, and Lasogga's partner remained in Germany in the previous week as the forward departed for Leeds to conclude negotiations concerning his transfer to Leeds United.

On Monday, Lasogga partook in a training session in the presence of his new teammates for the first time at Thorp Arch; he is thus in contention for a berth in Thomas Christiansen's matchday squad come Saturday.

Leeds, who have not yet been inured to the bitter taste of defeat in a competitive match since the appointment of Christiansen in June, are seeking to extend their undefeated sequence of results by securing a victory over lowly Burton Albion.

United occupy third position in the Championship table having acquired 11 points from their opening five league matches, and victory over the Brewers - who languish beneath local rivals Derby County in 21st position having amassed just four points - could see the Whites rise into either first or second place depending on results elsewhere.

The availability of Lasogga for selection on Saturday will doubtless be a source of relief for Christiansen, after the Italian-born Ghanaian striker Caleb Ekuban was recently ruled out for eight weeks following surgery on a broken foot.
