Leeds United handed difficult opening day fixture at home to recently relegated Stoke City

Leeds United's fixtures for the forthcoming Championship season have been revealed, and new head coach Marcelo Bielsa's first competitive match in charge will see recently relegated Stoke City visit Elland Road.

Leeds United's Championship fixtures for the 2018-19 season have been released this morning, and Marcelo Bielsa's new charges have been handed a potentially difficult home match against recently relegated Stoke City on the opening day. The Potters, now coached by erstwhile Birmingham City and Derby County manager Gary Rowett, finished a dismal 19th in the Premier League last season and have already bolstered their squad with the captures of former Wolves forward Benik Afobe and Nigeria international Oghenekaro Etebo as they aim for an immediate return to the top flight.

Among United's other opponents in August are Swansea City, another of the teams to have been relegated from the Premier League last season, and newly promoted Rotherham, who recently defeated Scunthorpe and Shrewsbury in the League One play-offs to return to the Championship at the first time of asking.

Marcelo Bielsa's men will conclude their season by doing battle with Ipswich Town at Elland Road on May 5.
