Dusan Tadic to Leave Saints ! Official
Wednesday, 27th Jun 2018 16:06

Southampton Football Club have confirmed that Dusan Tadic will be leaving the club and joining Ajax.

The statement on the club's official website was short.

"Southampton Football Club can confirm that Dušan Tadić has agreed a move to Ajax for an undisclosed fee.

The transfer, which will be officially completed on 1st July, sees the 29-year-old move back to the Dutch top-flight, four years after joining Saints from FC Twente.

In his time with Southampton, Tadić made 162 appearances, scoring 23 goals, helping the team achieve three top-eight finishes in the Premier League.

Everyone at Southampton Football Club would like to thank DuÅ¡an for all of his efforts during his four years at St Mary’s, and we wish him every success in the future."

In fairness to Tadic he probably deserves a bigger vote of thanks than the two lines the club have given him, he will leave one week short of the fourth anniversary of his arrival in the summer of 2014 for what now looks a bargain fee of £10,900 million.

In four seasons he started 115 Premier League games plus another 19 as sub making a total of 134 appearances made in the League out of a possible 152, perhaps making him one of our most regular performances in that period. Add to that the fact he scored 20 Premier league goals and was usually Saints top man for assists.

He also played another 28 games in cup competitions scoring 3 goals.

It would be fair to say that at times Tadic wasn't everyones cup of tea, he could sometimes drift out of games and appear tired in the final stages of games, indeed it is likely in 2016 that if Ronald Koeman had stayed at the club, Tadic might well have left two years ago.

But he was a player who could change a game, even in games that he did nt really get into, he still had the ability to create a chance or score a goal that would turn that game on it's head, sometimes football fans look too much at effort and less at actual meaningful contributions and Tadic was more about quality than quantity.

He should leave though with the best wishes of Saints supporters for time well served at St Mary's, as he approaches 30 it seems that Saints will make a good profit on a player who has given them good value for money over the last four seasons.

With Tadic gone it will free up a space in the squad that will either allow a new man to come into the squad to replace the Serbian or a member of the current squad to perhaps step forward, the obvious candidate would be Josh Sims, although do not rule out Nathan Redmond to take his opportunity to show what he can really do.

Sorry to see him go and wish him well.
Hot tempered yes, but he was one of very players that looked like they cared about playing to win for the Saints. His production had dropped off, but remember, one year he was passing to Pelle and Mane, and the next he had Long, Austin and Redmond so no surprise there! Plus he was frustrated by the negative tactics of Puel and Pellegrino.

Speaking of Redmond, Nick, what what was holding him back from showing what he can really do last year? Was Tadic tying his laces together?

Gutted he has gone, loved him he will be missed. Hopefully the Basel player will be an adequate if not better replacement. Here’s hoping anyway.

Really sorry to see him go. He was the best player we have left. Talking of Redman he is not fit to tie Dusan Tadics shoe laces. Now we need to spend some real money to get a proven creative player. Good luck to Dusan in the future.

In fact, Dusan displayed his talent in tonight's match - Serbia v Brazil. He was Serbia's best player and, just like Saints colleagues last season, his teammates weren't up to it. He was certainly a bargain buy for Saints and we were, in my opinion, lucky that nobody came in for him before now. To suggest that Nathan Redmond might fill his boots is overly optimistic - Josh Sims - well, maybe if he gets any chances but, I'm unconvinced that Mark Hughes is the type of manager to bring youngsters through, he's more comfortable with tried and battle-hardened players past their best but not quite over the top - funnily enough, just like Dusan is now. I doubt Hughes is impressed by the sale and neither am I.

Some of the fellows (above) have echoed my thoughts precisely.
For all his talent, Tadic lacked consistancy over a season and often went from M.O.M to the Invisible Man - in successive games. We may miss him - for a while- , but the older memories of him are those best kept.

For a player of his class he'll do well in the Dutch League which, like others , only has a couple of really class sides and a lot of "also rans" . He'll be 30 in December and a new longer term contract would be out of the question if he stayed with Saints, where his "saleable value" would decrease rapidly next year until we reached the point where he could walk away for nothing. Good luck Dusan.

In his first couple of years Tadic was outstanding and for me was rightly talk about in the same vein as players such as Özil, Eriksen and Fabregas.

What changed? Well, the exit of Koeman, Mane and Pelle was the catalyst for his dip in form and the complacency across the club was definitely mirrored by his poor attitude--albeit this did change when Hugh came in.

Regardless I will forever be grateful for Tadic's contribution (in particular his goal at Old Trafford) and, believe me, even when he was poor he'll still be hard to replace with the current calibre of players we have at our disposal.

I guess my only qualm will alway be his lack of consistency and not showing enough desire to refine aspects of his game i.e. finishing, controlling the tempo of a match etc.

I wish him all the best at Ajax and hopefully we'll have a replacement lined up.

I heard we've got Elyounoussi.

Hi Nick

Please do something about your website. Typing comments has become a nightmare - all sorts of problems I have never encountered on any other website. It is almost unusable now on my MacBook PRO. It can't be just me having these problems.

Regards

I am sad about this - he was frustrating at times but he DID care and, for me, made the difference in keeping us up. Also he left, after 4 years, in a dignified manner without any childish nonsense. Good luck Dusan - maybe you can score at Old Trafford again next season and knock manure out of the CL...

A classy departure from a classy player and person, Dusan Tadic will be missed and has created Sparky's next dilemma.
