Whitestone referees Doncaster game
Whitestone referees Doncaster game
Thursday, 18th Feb 2010 17:03

Dean Whitestone is back at Loftus Road for his third career QPR appointment as the R's face Doncaster this Saturday.

Queens Park Rangers v Doncaster Rovers
Referee: Dean Whitestone (Northamptonshire)

Assistants – Evetts (Hertfordshire) and Mason (Kent)
Fourth Official – Robinson (West Sussex)

The referee for our game this Saturday is Dean Whitestone from Northamptonshire - a relatively new official on the list. So far this season he has shown 59 yellows (2.681 a game) and two reds in 22 matches. His biggest haul to date is seven yellows in a league game between Southend and Millwall back in August. He has done six Championship matches so far this campaign showing 18 yellows (three a match on average) and one red. Last season he showed 86 yellows (2.457 a game) and six reds in 35 matches, including our 1-0 defeat at Coventry in September. His performance that day was marked as a five by LoftforWords and that placed him 25th on the referee league.

Referee: Dean Whitestone (Northamptonshire) 5 Over fussy in my opinion. Plenty of whistle, not a lot of common sense. Hard to argue with any of the cards but otherwise it was another football match where physical contact seemed to be completely banned – an increasing problem in the game. The players have come to play, put the whistle away for a few minutes and let them play. LFW Coventry Match Report

In 2007/08 one of his two Championship matches in the season was Rangers’ 2-1 home victory against Colchester over Christmas when six yellows were shown and Damion Stewart was sent off. He got a six out of ten for that match and that was good enough for joint 14th on the referee league.

Dean Whitestone 6 I actually came away from the game thinking he'd done quite well but as I've reflected during my Sunday in front of the television his mark has dropped by a couple as I've remembered some things that worried me about his performance. Firstly Sheringham should have been sent off in my opinion, secondly Stewart's first yellow was very harsh and thirdly I reckon that was a Colchester penalty at the end. In general play he seemed happy to allow the game to flow and seemed reasonably sensible, but he did get too many key decisions wrong for too high a mark. LFW Colchester Match Report

Elsewhere Andy Hall has Wycombe v Millwall which has the look of a bloodbath, Trevor Kettle has Accrington v Bradford. I notice Stuart Attwell’s name makes a rare appearance on the list next week as well in a midweek clash between Bury and Morecambe.
