England International speaks up for Dale
England International speaks up for Dale

England international David Bentley has hit out at top level football, and said that the fun has gone out of it. He says the only football worth watching these days is at Spotland. And who are we to disagree?

The story has come out following an interview that Bentley has done with the Daily Mail, that we happened to be flicking through on Saturday afternoon.

In it, he spoke out about a number of things, but the main focus throughout the piece was how the enjoyment has disappeared from the top flight of the game for both players and supporters.

Bentley, who was the first Englishman to score a competitive goal at the new Wembley, told the Mail: "The fun has gone out of going along and supporting your team."

"I go to watch Rochdale. You have your pie, a few pints, some banter and a laugh. At a higher level, some people get too caught up, they get sucked in, they have forgotten what it's about."

Bentley has been seen at a number of Dale games over the past couple of years. He has family in the town, and its that connection which has taken him to Spotland.
