Leeds land Nmecha but signing Solomon could prove more tricky Sunday, 15th Jun 2025 21:48 by Tim Whelan Our first new signing of the transfer window was announced today, as striker Lukas Nmecha will be joining us on July 1st. But while it was expected that Manor Solomon would also become a Leeds player early in the window, those hopes could be dashed by the change of manager at Tottenham Hotspur. Leeds United’s official site said today that they were delighted to announce that Lukas Nmecha has agreed to join the club on an initial two-year contract when his current deal expires at VfL Wolfsburg. The 26-year-old was born in Hamburg but began his career at Manchester City, though he only managed two first team appearances for the Etihad mob. Loan spells at Preston, Middlesbrough and Anderlect followed, but he has spent the last four years in Germany, amounting to 16 goals in 63 appearances. Both those numbers have underwhelmed many of those posting on social media, with comments that he’s not that prolific and has a poor injury record. But others have pointed out that he is likely to be just a backup squad member, and that the club are continuing to search for a higher profile striker to lead the line. If we don’t get such a player we’ll have to hope that Nmecha and Bamford are injured at different times, so that we always have one of them available as the non-scoring centre forward. Nmecha was certainly sounding chipper when he told LUTV why he has chosen to come to Leeds in the face of competition from a few other Premier League clubs. “I saw that there was dominance last season in terms of possession and the goals. I'm an attacking player, so obviously that's exciting for me.” “Of course, in the Premier League, there's some big boys in there where you can't play like that all the time, but I think the idea of the manager is to play good football, possession football, and that's what I'm used to and what I love doing. It's just a great challenge and I'm really excited to get to know the team.” Nmecha is over six foot tall and he can also play on the wing, which would be handy if we don’t manage to land Manor Solomon. After the end of last season the indications were that Leeds were likely to be able to convert the Israeli international’s loan spell into a permanent transfer. But Football Insider are reporting that his situation has been complicated by the change of manager at White Hart Lane. They are claiming that new Spurs boss Thomas Frank is an admirer of Solomon and wants to have a look at him in training before he decides whether to sanction his departure from the club. And the same outlet have also reported that even if the north London club to decide to sell Solomon, we would face competition for his signature from Marseille.
