Leeds make a point but pay the penalty

Reminiscent of many games this season Leeds picked up a decent point at Crystal Palace but were left pondering what might have been.

The first-half was slowly ebbing away with both sides cancelling each other out hut sprung into life in the dying minutes when Will Hughes, that delightful ex public schoolboy we fondly remember from his days at Derby attempted to punch the ball away from a corner. Stonewall penalty! Even though VAR did a quick check! Whether or not the delay played on Dominic Calvert-Lewin's mind we shall never know but despite sending Walter Benetiz the wrong way, DCL's spotkick was well-wide of the target.

So rather than going into the break a goal up Leeds were actually a man down, Gaby Gudmonssen already on a yellow for pulling Brennan Johnson's shirt caught Sarr. Palace had been screaming for Jaka Bijol to receive his second-yellow moments earlier got their way when the Swede walked much to the delight of their no.23 who did a double fist-pump and silly jiggling dance.

Daniel Farke, so often accused of being overtly defensively negative would surely have been forgiven for abandoning his two up top plan, bringing on defender Jaydn Bogle for Brendan Aaronsson as Leeds mission was to contain and try and forage something on the break.

Which is pretty much what they did. Palace never really looked like scoring and even when they did, Lerma heading in a second attempt after a Darlow save, VAR was our salvation as provider Johnson was ruled offside.

Johnson had plenty of the rub of the green re the amount of second-yellows ignored by referee Thomas Bramall.

Stach tested Benitez late on but Leeds took a battling point and shall move on.

Yes, it should have been all-three but with West Ham and Forest only managing draws and Tottenham losing at Liverpool as I write, all focus now is on Brentford at home next Saturday night under the lights at 8pm. We all know what needs to be done.
