Loan watch round up
Tuesday, 5th May 2026 05:32

A round-up of the forgetten men of Elland Road.

As the so-called business end of the season draws to a conclusion, Leeds have got some decisions to make on what to do with the players still contracted to the club but plying their trade elsewhere on-loan.

Joe Gelhardt will be looking to add to his impressive tally of 19 goal assists this seaaon on-loan at Hull City as The Tigers go into the Championship play-offa. Joffy, 22 has just over a year left on his Leeds contract and whatever the outcome for Hull, surely Leeds will be looking at cashing in on him this summer?

Another young forward who has struggled to make an impact here, Mateo Joseph, has seen a frustrating season at Mallorca come to a premature end, scoring just twice this term before being struck-down with injury. Leeds once boasted turning down an eight-figure sum for Joseph but unless he starts scoring they'll get nothing remotely like that for him when his contract expires in 2028.

Largie Ramazani however has been on scintillating form in La Liga for Valencia since the turn of the year and Leeds appear willing to do a deal at £10m, roughly what they paid Almeria for the ex Man U academy player. However it aopears Valencia would prefer another season long loan for the winger who is popular amongst supporters but clearly not a favourite of Daniel Farke.

Its forgivable to forget that Werder Bremen have two Whites on-loan in Issac Schmidt and Max Wober. Schmidt has 17 matches under his belt in the Bundisliga which is 16 more than Wober! Schmidt is someone we've barely seen anything of even at Championship level last season at left back so even if the unthinkable happens and we do return to the second-tier it seems unlikely Farke would want him back. Wober was warmly received initially when he arrived little over three-years ago from RB Saltzberg but couldn't wait to leave when we went down. After a season long loan at
Borussia Mönchengladbach in 23/24 Wober was unable to break into last seasons Championship winning side and it seems unlikely Bremen will take up the option of a permanent move. Wober is contracted until 2027.

How do you solve a problem like Jack Harrison? The winger went from hero in the Bielsa team to someone who split the fanbase. The former Man City man spent two-seasons on-loan at Everton whilst we were on Championship duty. After a sprinkling of sub appearances, Harrison joined Florentina on loan in the new year, joining up with former Leeds favourite Manor Solomon in Italy. Florentina have the option to buy Harrison this summer and the word is he's had a mixed-bag of fortune out there but encouragingly hes got three-assists and one goal to his name. A common held view is that he has more chance of staying in Italy than Solomon has.

Im not sure if Adam Underwood's remit includes sorting out the futures of the above? However our head of recruitment deserves a lot of credit for the job he has done so far.

Theres also the issue of the four players who's contracts expire next month, not including Facundo Buenotte on-loan from Brighton who may as well get a lift back with them when they come to Leeds later this month. Sam Byram plus three goalkeepers Alex Cairns, Karl Darlow and Ilan Meslier are all scheduled to become free-agents.
