![]() Tuesday, 12th May 2026 00:11 Despite having Premier League survival in the bag, Leeds earned a spirited point at Tottenham on Monday night and may well have nicked all three. Tottenham's French forward Mathys Tel had an impact at both ends. Leeds were missing Jaydyn Bogle so Daniel James started at right wing-back. Brendan Aaronsen was nominated to attack with top-scorer Dominic Calvert-Lewin. Spurs have been wretched at home this season and despite a Tifo and a lot of din at kick off, it was a nervy, scrappy affair as Spurs began with a solitary point advantage above neighbours West Ham who are in the relegation zone. The pick of the first-half moments for Leeds came when Joe Roden forced a last gasp save from his header which somehow Antonin Kinsky clawed off the line and into first-half stoppage time when Destiny Udogie appeared to uphend Calvert-Lewin but a VAR check ruled the Leeds striker was ruled to be marginally offside. Five minutes after the restart the hosts took the lead, Mathys Tel who scored at Elland Road in October lashed home a blistering drive from the edge of the bz giving Karl Darlow no chance. Arguably substitutions by Daniel Farke altered the course of the game but his first one, on 56 minutes was enforced as Pascal Striujk limped off having struggled with injury since before half-time to be replaced by Sebastiaan Bornauw. Seven minutes later Leeds brought on Lukas Nmecha for Brendan Aaronsen and Willie Gnonto for Daniel James. I thought this finally made us look more dangerous going forward but our equaliser initially came due to the stupidity of Tel who tried to clear in the area by performing an overhead kick but instead crashed his boot into the face of Ethan Ampadu. After a ridiculously lengthy VAR check, referee Jared Gillet changed his mind and awarded a penalty which Calvert-Lewin converted. Indeed another substitute Sean Longstaff nearly snatched it at the death for Leeds forcing Kinsky to divert his drive onto the post and couldnt quite connect with another close range chance moments later. But in the 13th minute of stoppage time Leeds survived a huge scare when Spurs sub James Maddison went down under the challenge of Nmecha in the area but the Leeds player was adjudged to have made contact with the ball rather than the man. Overall a deserved point, shame we couldnt have taken all three to heap more anxiety on Tottenham, who are just two points above West Ham and don't play again until they visit Chelsea on May 19th and by them they could be back in the bottom three depending on what West Ham do at 13th placed Newcastle at the weekend. This point takes us back up to 14th. Photo: Action Images via Reuters Please report offensive, libellous or inappropriate posts by using the links provided.
