Leeds spurned by two strikers
Leeds spurned by two strikers

This week Leeds have been after Enoch Showunmi and Carlos Costly, but neither player will be coming to the club.

Yesterday Leeds agreed a fee with Bristol City for Enoch Showunmi, but today the official site reported that the striker wants to stay at Bristol City and fight for his place. It might be that he was disappointed with the wages we were offering, or maybe he just couldn’t face the thought of going back to Luton on Saturday. But I don’t think we’ve missed that much, as the clubfanzine City site reports that he has been very inconsistent and he has only scored three goals in 15 games this season.

And Honduran international Carlos Costly is another forward who isn’t coming to Elland Road. Costly, who plays for the delightfully named Atow Belch club in Poland, was due to join the club on trial, but has opted to try and earn a deal with a Premiership club instead.

After these setbacks Dennis Wise will have to keep looking to strengthen his squad in the striking department, with Leon Constantine out with an injury, Kandol running out of form and Flo looking a little bit past it. One possible option could be Cornell Glen, who was part of the Trinidad & Tobago squad which reached the 2006 World Cup Finals and has also played for LA Galaxy. Glen is currently at Thorp Arch on trial.

And two defenders have also come to Leeds on trial. One is German full-back Dominik Werling who is now a free agent, but he made 19 appearances for Barnsley earlier in the season before his short-term contract expired. The other is Latvian defender Oskars Klava, who currently plays for FHK Liepajas Metalurgs.
