Midfield player Andy Robinson is coming to Leeds, after turning down the offer of a new contract at Swansea City.

A statement on the Swansea City official website says how disappointed they are to lose Robinson, who has decided not to renew his contract with the Welsh club, which expires on June 30th.  “Andy asked the Club to wait until after Sunday's League One play off final for a final decision on whether he would accept our current offer to extend his contract, but the Club felt this an unrealistic request and imposed a deadline of yesterday for Andy to make his mind up. This he did, subsequently deciding to move on”.

Ha, Ha, Ha. In other words, if Swansea had shown a little bit more patience with the player they might have been able to retain his services, in the event that we should lose Sunday’s play-off final. Having forced his hand, the Swans have discovered that although they might have pipped us for the League One title this season, Robinson clearly sees Leeds has the better option in the long term.

It’s possible that Leeds have will be paying him a decent wage, as Swansea’s final offer “would have made Andy one of the highest paid players in the History of Swansea City FC”. But it also shows that Leeds still have considerable pulling power  when it comes to attracting new talent, and players can see that the club is heading in the right direction. All of which augurs well for next season, as Macca builds his squad for another promotion campaign either in League One or the Championship.

But there are no hard feelings, as Swansea “wish Andy Robinson every success in the choice he has made in this next stage of his career”.
