Leeds in hunt for former Mr Jamelia

Gary McAllister's latest target, according to speculation, is ex-Britsol City star and on/off squeeze of pop-star Jamelia - Darren Byfield.

The 31-year old Brummie born striker is the latest name in the frame for a move to Leeds, with Swansea and Doncaster reportedly interested.

The much-travelled Byfield has just been released by last-seasons Championship surprise package Bristol City. He managed a pretty average 8 goals in 33 starts for the Robins last season.

Byfield however was more prolific during 2006/07 whilst at Millwall, neetting 17 times in 31 games. Having began his career at Aston Villa, he his career has taken in loan moves to Preston, Northampton, Cambridge and Rotherham. He made a permanent switch to Rotherham in 2002, before joining Sunderland, then Gillingham before a season each spent at The New Den and Ashton Gate.

Hardly the sort of signing to get the Leeds fans licking their lips, even though Jamelia is quite pleasing on the eye and knocks out a half-decent tune now and then - she isn't really as cool as having the Kaiser Chief's as celeb Leeds fans! Leeds as ever won't be drawn on the speculation, so as ever we will wait and see if there is owt in this!

Maybe more appealing speculation to United's long-suffering supports is an article in tonights YEP (Friday) claiming that Dougie Freedman has admitted he would return to Leeds. Freedman who is due to discuss his future with Crystal Palace boss Neil Warnock, has said he would not rule out a move to Leeds - but it would have to be permanent. He has revealed the only loan move he would consider would be to another London club, for the sake of his family - who he spent three months apart from last season in a spell at ER that yielded 6 goals in 14 starts.
