Arsenal Fanshare Gives Gooners a Voice
Arsenal Fanshare Gives Gooners a Voice

Despite infamously being a subdued lot at the Grove, Arsenal supporters are the first out of England's big clubs to be given the opportunity to buy shares for an affordable price and air their views to the board.

The scheme has been five years in the making and is led by the Arsenal supporters trust. Head to this website for details although it appears to be struggling with demand at the moment.

The idea is to give fans the opportunity to buy 100th of one share and in doing so gives each investor full shareholder rights which include the opportunity to attend the AGM and vote on policy.

Given each share costs £10,000 and the club is valued at £650 million, the immediate impact on the future of the club will be negligible but it is undoubtedly a 'good' idea in every respect. The big Spanish and German clubs have always been effectively run by the fans but it is a model that the plural ownership of Arsenal and the prohibitively high price of buying shares will probably never be seen at our club. However, this scheme gives fans a sense of ownership and puts Arsenal in an extremely positive light when compared to the dangerous, autocratic ownership models at the other top clubs in England.

More good news coming out of the Grove is the official unveiling of the new-old stands. The North Bank, Clock End, East and West Stand will all return and we will no longer have to see the dreaded quadrant signs at every turn. A new clock has also been positioned within the stadium at the Clock End leaving the original overlooking the Clock End bridge outside the stadium.

Everything is falling into place very well and is a result of the very professional and responsible approach which the club has always been famous for. There is a sense that we should be about to dominate the English game in the future despite others sickening spending. Yet, with such a solid foundation, Wenger is one of the few managers in the game who can justify spending a bit of money and, if he did, we could already be dominant.
