When Will We Win

When Will We Win

It's probably fair to say that Swansea, Darlington and Rotherham have little interest in the championship, happy instead to settle for a berth just above the play-offs irrespective of its position. For 90 minutes, the most notable thing on show was the fact that Price had dyed his hair back to its natural black colour. Then with the board having just been held up to indicate 3 minutes of added time, the game exploded into action. A hopeful long ball, saw Posh striker Clarke outpace the out of sorts Swansea back line and find space for a clear shot on goal. With a well hit shot, the ball looked destined for the top left hand corner of the net when, Freestone who had nothing to do, launched himself to his left and with a fully outstretched left arm, just managed to connect with ball and push it wide to safety. From the resulting clearance, the ball fell to Boyd in the box, whose shot was charged down. The ball fell to Appleby whose teasing lob caused their 6'3" keeper to scramble back and palm the ball over the bar to safety. It was difficult to pick a player from the Swansea side who came out of the game with any credit and so the man of the match award had to go to Roger Freestone. Steve Jones and Mike Howard tried hard and saw quite a bit of the ball - but their distribution was atrocious today. Smith and Bound had their most uncomfortable time for a long time up against Jason Lee and aerial supremacy belonged to him. Cusack and Thomas were frequently caught on the ball by the combative Peterborough outfit and as a result, the game NEVER flowed. Out wide, both Price and Coates had games to forget although neither gave up trying. I thought the cheer for Coates getting taken off was unjustified and can't be doing his confidence any good. Watkin and Alsop were well contained by a strong posh defence although Watkin did control a lot of the balls played up to him. Again the main problem was poor distribution. Appleby was the only bright spot in the outfield arena for Swansea and did make a few effective runs down the left wing. Boyd who had come on for Price nearly had a goal with his first touch, but his shot was blocked by some excellent Posh defending. O'Leary replaced Coates but the 3 or 4 touches and shots he had were abysmal. It's fair to say he was no worse than anyone else though. All in all a fiar result but bloody annoying
