Swansea 0 Rotherham 2

Stale Swans Fall Out Of Top Six

Part and parcel of football is watching your team being beaten from time to time. Even fans of Chelsea and Gretna have had to swallow that over the past couple of seasons and generally defeat doesn't bother me. However, defeat such as this annoys me immensely. To be so thoroughly outclassed by Rotherham at home is embarrassing. Not because it is Rotherham but because we didn't compete. From the first minute to the last minute the closest we got to being in this game was, in reality, being on the same pitch. Rotherham could, and maybe should, have had more goals and the empty spaces around White Rock come the final whistle spoke volumes that this was by far the worst performance of the season.

When you go into a game knowing that you are looking to win four on the bounce you expect to see a real effort towards that goal and if it doesn't happen then you have every right to want to see that everything was given. The only passion that I really recall seeing today was Willy arguing with a fan at the end of the game - 90 odd minutes too late in reality.

And the worst part is that finally we have dropped out of the play off places. That has been coming for weeks and the optimists will tell you that it will be the kick up the arse that we needed. And if that is what it proves then I wish it had happened in January but never mind.

Lining up in front of 14000-odd, Bayo returned to the starting line up ahead of Rory leaving the Swans to start as follows

Big Willy

Sam Tatey Monk Williams

Forbesy Roberto OTJ Robbo

LT10 Bayo

Subs: Murphy, KOL, Knight, Rory, McDonald

The reality is there is little I can say about the game action wise. I don't make notes of what is going on and we did so little of note that nothing really sticks out. Their first was an own goal from Monk who deflected in a free kick (we can't defend them anyway) and their second came from some piss poor Willy handling leaving the attacker with the easiest chance to double the lead.

It could have been more bar good tackles from Tate and Forbes whilst I think it was 43 minutes before we had a meaningful shot and around 89 before we had one on target. And a poor one at that.

Tactically we were left wanting, I really can't work out the formation we changed to when we bought on Knight and Rory - I think it was 3-4-3 but it could have been anything and to be honest it was as ineffective as it could have been.

From here I see little point in criticising individuals, we take plaudits as a team we take the criticism as a team and today as a team we were well well short of the standard that we have the right to expect. And that is what hurts the most this evening.

How will we react to this? I don't know, ask me again on Saturday evening
