Pochettino Puzzled Why There Is A Doubt About His Saints Future

Mauricio Pochettino is being quoted on Sky Sports that he is puzzled as to why he would be contemplating his Southampton future.

Commenting on quotes attributed to new Saints Chairman Ralph Krueger who stated that he would be fighting to keep his manager at Southampton, Pochettino responded by saying the the ball is firmly in the club's court regarding a new deal.

"I don't think it will be a fight, I have one more year left on my contract," he said. "The decision will be made by the club, when the club has to make that decision.

"I don't really know why there needs to be this massive effort."

The inference from the Argentinian is that he is happy to see out his contract and is not seeking a move and that should he leave it would be at the Club's behest rather than his own.

This could of course cover all bases in that if an offer was to come in for him then Saints would of course have to release him from his contract and therefore whatever way he was to leave it would be the Club who would drive the situation rather than him.

On the other hand he could also be saying that if the Club were to offer him a new deal then that is down to the club not him whilst being happy to stay next season under his current deal, he would not be against the Club extending it if the terms were right.

Either way its positive words from Pochettino, he is of course in a strong position to negotiate a new deal and as with all contracts there is sometimes a bit of wheeler dealing to be done and he knows it will do him no harm to firstly let the club know he is open to staying longer and secondly let the fans know as well.
