Shrewsbury Town Preview

It's the big kick off in the Premiership tomorrow with the big spenders trying to outspend each other, trying to unsettle players, trying to ruin the game.  So lets forget about them.  The Moss Rose plays host to the first home game of the season when we welcome Shrewsbury Town.

The Shrews and the Silkmen both had entertaining Carling Cup games in midweek which saw a total of 14 goals.  Macc were defeated at Leicester by one goal in seven whilst Shrewsbury unbelievably came back from 3-0 down to win 4-3 at home to Charlton Athletic.

Even though the Silkmen were defeated on Tuesday night, manager Gary Simpson was proud of his players and say's the team are full of confidence going into the weekends game.

The manager has no new injury worries and with the likes of Hamza Bencherif and Ross Draper returning to full fitness he has a very strong side to pick from.  Jose Veiga is expected to keep his place in goal despite a bit of a shaky performance at Leicester.

18 year old Vinny Mukendi came off the bench on Tuesday night and put in a superb man of the match performance.  But Simpson looks set to keep the front two of Tyrone Barnett and Emile Sinclair with Mukendi on the bench.

Shrewsbury Town are without ex Silkmen Kevin McIntyre.  The defender was sent off last weekend with a straight red card and misses three games.  Manager Graham Turner has no fresh injury concerns and is likely to limit the number of changes to the side from Tuesday night.

Kris Bright could return into contention after illness but fellow striker Nathan Elder (knee ligaments) is sidelined for the long-term.  Ex Wycombe striker Matt Harrold will lead the line for the Shrews and he is expecting a close game.  "The game with Macclesfield is going to be a really hard test." said Harrold.

"I've played there before a couple of years ago and it was a pretty dire game and it's not the most lovely place you are ever going to go, but these are the things you have to do to get promoted. You have to scrap and win games and get points when you are not always at your best, so we have got to go to Macclesfield and be tough and hard to break down and I am sure we can always score a goal."

Not the most lovely place eh?

Hopefully the weather won't cause any problems with the game.  Yesterday saw a huge downpour which flooded the corner of the pitch towards the away end.
