Happy League 2024/25 Week 7 (of 38) - Deadline Saturday 21st September 12.30
at 22:15 14 Sep 2024

Week 6 results

FULHAM 1 WEST HAM UNITED 1

Danny Ings scored in the 95th minute to rescue a point for West Ham. That late goal was good news for the 9 who got this spot-on, and the one who had the outcome.

LIVERPOOL 0 NOTTINGHAM FOREST 1
Callum Hudson-Odoi gets the goal, as unbeaten Forest stunned Liverpool at Anfield to end Arne Slot's perfect start as Reds boss. This was their first win at Liverpool in any competition since 1969. No points for anyone from this game, with everyone predicting a win for Liverpool.

BLACKBURN ROVERS 3 BRISTOL CITY 0
Yuki Ohashi kept up his remarkable start to his Blackburn career with two goals, to make it five goals from five games, as his side maintained their unbeaten start to the Championship season. Nobody got this spot-on, but 22 did have the outcome, with 14 going for a 2-1 in what was the weeks most predicted score.

SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY 1 QUEENS PARK RANGERS 1
Two dramatic added-time goals saw Wednesday take a 93rd minute lead, and Rangers equalise in the 96th minute. Those late goals were good news for the 3 who had this spot-on, and 3 also got the outcome.

BLACKPOOL 2 EXETER CITY 1
James Husband scored a 94th minute winner to give Steve Bruce victory in his first game in charge of Blackpool, after Exeter had equalised in the 88th minute. That late goal was good news for the 3 who got this spot-on, and the further 11 who had the outcome.

CARLISLE UNITED 2 FLEETWOOD TOWN 3
Danny Mayor scored his first league double since September 2018 as Fleetwood won their first away game of the season with this victory at managerless Carlisle. Nobody had this spot-on, though 10 did get the outcome.

What a crazy unpredictable game football is. After a certain League 2 team throws away a two goal lead against 10-men, we then have the Happy League banker Liverpool losing at home to Nottingham Forest for the time in over 50 years. Looking at the predictions for the other five games, as they approached full-time, it looked like 1-0 wins for Fulham and Blackpool were going to be the weeks only 3 pointers. Then after Sheffield Wednesday took the lead I couldn't believe nobody had predicted them to win 1-0. Late goals in those three fixtures changed everything, to complete a crazy week, and in the end we had a total of 15 spot-ons, with four members doing well to have two each. They were blueeagle, basher2010 and RSCOSWORTH, who all had the Fulham 1-1 and the Blackpool 2-1, and gerry_us, who got the 1-1 draws at Fulham and Sheff Wed. They all also had one outcome, to make it a four-way share of being the weeks top scorer, with a decent 7 points each. Best of those to have one 3 pointer were Lewis_1 and noah4x4, who each had the Fulham 1-1 and three outcomes, to give them both a decent 6 points.
Looking at how the first 40 games have finished. 18 (45%) have ended as homes, 13 (32.50%) as aways, with the other 9 (22.50%) being drawn. Early days has homes above average, draws below average, and aways at historical levels. Top result is still 2-0 with 8. Two ahead of the 1-1 in second. No game has ended 2-2 yet.

In the Premier The late goals for West Ham and Blackpool was great news for blueeagle, as he continued his red-hot start to the season, and another top scoring performance has increased his lead to a mighty 13 points. Two outcomes were just enough for thrillseeker to hold onto the other Charity Shield spot, on the most 3 pointer rule from basher2010, who closes in, after those late goals gave him a top scoring performance. Up five places to fourth, after his top scoring performance, is RSCOSWORTH, who was another grateful for those late goals. 3 pointers were hard to come by for the rest of the division, with only Daniel getting the Sheff Wed 1-1. as things remain incredibly tight. Two outcomes for unitedwhites drops him a place to fifth. Two outcomes also for Sector4 as he leads a group of five on 25 points in sixth. Despite having more outcomes than anyone in both divisions, ghughes11 finds himself bottom of the 25 group in the relegation zone. He joins burnsieespana and concordman, who remain there.

In Division One A solid 5 points for Tropical_Us, that included having the Fulham 1-1 spot-on, keeps him top for the second week running. A replica solid week for wessex_exile moves him up a place, and into the other other automatic spot. A solid 5 points for bwildered, that included getting the Sheff Wed 1-1 spot-on, moved him up a place to third. Two outcomes for durham_exile drops him to fourth. The decent week for Lewis_1 moves him up a place to fifth. The top scoring performance from gerry_us moves him up three places into the final play-off spot. Just losing out on the most 3 pointer rule is noah4x4, after his decent week moved him up a place, and also BFG, who drops a place despite having the Fulham 1-1 spot-on. Two outcomes for Blue4U2 means he drops four places, but is still within 2 points of the play-offs. Just outcomes for the rest of the league, but a good four for Jorash63 moves him up a place.

THE TABLES (40 out of 280 played)
(Tie-breaker: Most 3 pointers, and then the first to post)

Happy League 2024/25 Week 6 (of 38) - Deadline Saturday 14th September 15.00

Week 5 results

BARNSLEY 2 BRISTOL ROVERS 1

Davis Keillor-Dunn marked his Barnsley debut with a goal to help his new side to this win. A ginormous 15 got this spot-on, in what was the weeks most predicted score, and a further 7 had the outcome.

CHARLTON ATHLETIC 1 ROTHERHAM UNITED 1
Liam Kelly ended Rotherham’s run of eight away league games without a goal but they were unable to get a first away win since November 2022 as Charlton hit back to draw. Only Tropical_Us and Colukev had this spot-on, and only Moor_Pinot got the outcome. The other 22 predicted a win for Charlton.

WREXHAM 3 SHREWSBURY TOWN 0
Wrexham eased to victory in their early-season League One derby against Shrewsbury to take over at the top of the table. 3 got this spot-on, and another 19 had the outcome.

BARROW 1 SWINDON TOWN 1
Danny Butterworth scored a 98th-minute equaliser to earn Swindon a dramatic draw, in a game where both teams had a player sent off. That late goal was good news for the 3 who had this spot-on, and nobody got the outcome. 19 predicted a win for Barrow.

NEWPORT COUNTY 1 PORT VALE 4
Nine-man Newport endured a miserable afternoon as Vale returned to winning ways in emphatic style. Nobody got this spot-on, but 3 did have the outcome. 17 predicted a win for Newport.

NOTTS COUNTY 2 ACCRINGTON STANLEY 0
A brace from David McGoldrick ensured County’s unbeaten start to the season extended from four games to five with this victory. A cool 4 had this spot-on, and a further 17 got the outcome.

Due to it being an International break, there was a limited number of games left to pick from, but they turned out to be ones that looked good for the home teams, with 123 (82%) of the weeks 150 predictions going for the hosts. Of couse predicting football matches is never that easy, and only three obliged. At least they did their part in making this a good week, with a decent 27 spot-ons in total. The stand out performances came from blueeagle, who got the wins for Barnsley and Notts County, and the Barrow 1-1 spot-on, and one outcome, to make him the weeks top scorer, with a superb 10 points. Just missing out on that honour was wessex_exile, who also got three 3 pointers, the wins for Barnsley, Wrexham and Notts County, to give him an excellent 9 points. Three members did well to get two 3 pointers, with the best coming from Colukev, who had the Barnsley 2-1 to go with the Charlton 1-1, and two outcomes, to give him a very decent 8 points. Best of those to get one 3 pointer were Tropical_Us, with the Charlton 1-1, and Lewis_1, who had the Barnsley 2-1. They each also got three outcomes, to give them both a decent 6 points.

In the Premier I said last week blueeagle had made a scorching start to the season. After his top scoring performance this week, he has gone up a notch to red-hot, after he got his third double-figure score this season. Two 3 pointers, the wins for Wrexham and Notts County, helped thrillseeker to stay in contention, though now 8 points back. Only outcomes for basher2010 and unitedwhites, but they remain third and fourth. Having the Barsley 2-1 spot-on made sure of oxfcolu remaining fifth. Also getting the Barnsley win spot-on moved Sector4 and mfb_cufc up a place to sixth and seventh, as they move above ghughes11, who had three outcomes. Having the Barnsley 2-1 spot-on keeps RSCOSWORTH out of the bottom three. The relegation zone remains the same, though burnsieespana moved up a place after having the wins for Barnsley and Wrexham spot-on. A solid 5 points for Daniel and concordman, that included having the Barnsley win spot-on, was not enough to stop them occupying the bottom two places. Though with only 7 points separating 3rd to 12th, outside the top two things couldn't be any closer.
Footnote: I had look through the last ten season records to see if anyone had got more than the 39 points achieved by blueeagle in the first 5 weeks, and indeed there is. In the 2020/21 season a certain ghughes11 managed to get 43 points. He was in Division One at the time, and he also had a lead of 8 points. By the end of the season he only finished fifth, and got promtion through the play-offs. So there is still hope for the rest of the Premier, that this may not last.

In Division One The lead has changed again, with the decent week for Tropical_Us finally taking him to the top, after waiting in the wings since Week 1. Having the Barnsley win spot-on was enough for last weeks leader durham_exile to take the other automatic place. The excellent week for wessex_exile moved him up seven places into third, and within a point of the top two. This means bwildered and Blue4U2 both drop a place to fourth and fifth, despite each getting the Barnsley 2-1 spot-on. The decent week for Lewis_1 moved him up three places, and into the final play-off spot for the first time this season. He replaces BFG, who drops out of the top six for the first time, despite getting a good four outcomes. It is status quo for noah4x4, as he remains eighth, despite having the Barnsley win spot-on. Having the Notts County 2-0 spot-on doesn't stop gerry_us dropping a couple of places. Two outcomes for Madeira163 means he drops five places. A first 3 pointer this season for Moor_Pinot, the Barnsley 2-1, though he remains unmoved. The final member this week to get the Barnsley win spot-on was Jorash63, but he also remains unmoved. The very decent week for Colukev was not enough for him to relinquish the wooden spoon.

THE TABLES (34 out of 280 played)
(Tie-breaker: Most 3 pointers, and then the first to post)

Week 4 results

CARDIFF CITY 0 MIDDLESBROUGH 2

Cardiff remain winless and bottom of the Championship after losing this latest game. Well done to gerry_us for being the only one to get this spot-on, and a further 13 had the outcome.

COVENTRY CITY 0 NORWICH CITY 1
Norwich registered their first Championship victory under head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup as Borja Sainz's goal proved to be enough. Well done to Madeira163 for being the only one to have this spot-on, and another 4 got the outcome. 14 predicted a win for Coventry with 9 going for a 2-1 in what was equally the weeks most predicted score.

BRISTOL ROVERS 2 CAMBRIDGE UNITED 0
Club-record signing Promise Omochere scored his first goals for Rovers in this victory. A great 8 got this spot-on, and a further 11 had the outcome.

CRAWLEY TOWN 0 BARNSLEY 3
Three first-half goals gave Barnsley a comfortable win, as Crawley fail to have a single shot in the game. Nobody had this spot-on, but 13 did get the outcome.

READING 2 CHARLTON ATHLETIC 0
Charlton had won their opening three league games of the new season without conceding a goal, but Reading put an end to that with this win. Again nobody got this spot-on, though 6 did have the outcome.

GILLINGHAM 1 CHESTERFIELD 0
Gillingham cemented their position at the top of League Two with this victory as both sides ended the match with 10 men. A super 6 had this spot-on, and a further 10 got the outcome.

ACCRINGTON STANLEY 1 COLCHESTER UNITED 1
Colchester substitute Ben Goodliffe scored an 85th minute equaliser to snatch a draw and deny Accrington their first win of the season. A magnificent 7 got this spot-on, and 2 more had the outcome.

BROMLEY 1 CREWE ALEXANDRA 2
Crewe completed a late comeback to seal their first win of the League Two season. Well done to Blue4U2 for being the only one to have this spot-on, and another 4 got the outcome. 16 predicted a win for Bromley.

CARLISLE UNITED 1 TRANMERE ROVERS 2
Former Carlisle man Omari Patrick’s brace helped Tranmere maintain their unbeaten start in League Two with this win. Only 2 got this spot-on, and 5 more had the outcome.

WALSALL 2 CHELTENHAM TOWN 1
Veteran striker Jamille Matt scored as Walsall continued their strong start to the League Two campaign. A super 6 had this spot-on, and a further 15 got the outcome, with 9 going for a 2-0 in what was the weeks other most predicted score.

The first 10 game week of the season proved to be good one overall. Even though 2 games failed to have a 3 pointer, and 4 other games only produced five between them, the other 4 made up for it in a big way, and we ended with a decent 32 in total. With the Premier coming out on top by 18-14. There were four members who did well to have three 3 pointers, with the best coming from thrillseeker, who had the wins for Bristol Rovers and Gillingham, and the Accrington 1-1, and durham_exile, who had the wins for Bristol Rovers, Gillingham and Walsall. They each also had three outcomes, to give them a share of being the weeks top scorer, with a brilliant 12 points. The others were unitedwhites, who got the wins for Gillingham and Walsall, and the Accrington 1-1, and two outcomes, to give him a superb 11 points, And finally Sector4, who had the wins for Bristol Rovers, Gillingham and Tranmere, and one outcome, to give him an excellent 10 points. Five members got two 3 pointers, with the best coming from blueeagle, who had the 2-1 wins for Tranmere and Walsall, and four outcomes, to give him and excellent 10 points. Best of those to have one 3 pointer was basher2010, who got the Accrington 1-1, and an impressive seven outcomes, to give him an excellent 10 points. A special mention for ghughes11, in also having an impressive seven outcomes.

In the Premier The excellent week for blueeagle continued his scorching start to the season, and he remains top for the third week running. Though his lead was cut by a point, as the top scoring performance from thrillseeker moved him up a couple of places into the other Charity Shield spot. The excellent week for basher2010 was enough for him to remain third, The superb week for unitedwhites moved him up a couple places to fourth. Despite getting the Accrington 1-1 spot-on, oxfcolu drops three to fifth. The impressive seven outcomes was not enough to stop ghughes11 dropping a place to sixth. The excellent week for Secto4 continued his recovery, and moves up three places to seventh. Also moving up three places is mfb_cufc, after he had the wins for Bristol Rovers and Gillingham spot-on. Having the Walsall 2-1 spot-on was not enough to save RSCOSWORTH going down a place. That win for Walsall gave a first 3 pointer this season for Daniel, but it couldn't stop him dropping back into the bottom three again. He is joined there by burnsieespana, and concordman remains bottom, despite also having the win for Walsall spot-on.

In Division One We have a new leader, as the top scoring performance from durham_exile moved him up an incredible seven places to the summit. A decent 8 points for Tropical_Us, that included having the wins for Bristol Rovers and Gillingham spot-on, moved him up a place and back into the other automatic spot. A decent 8 points also for bwildered, that included getting the Bristol Rovers 2-0 and the Accrington 1-1 spot-on, moved him up a couple of places, and back to third. Having that good Crewe 2-1 prediction could not stop Blue4U2 dropping a couple of places to fourth. The good Norwich 1-0 prediction moved Madeira163 up a place to fifth. After leading for the last two weeks BFG has to be content with being in the final play-off place this week. The good Middlesbrough 2-0 prediction could only get gerry_us status-quo, and he remains seventh. At least he is not Down Down. The next three places were decided on the first to post rule, with noah4x4 just ahead of Lewis_1 and wessex_exile, who had a decent 8 points, that included getting his first 3 pointers this season, the Bristol Rovers 2-0 and the Accrington 1-1. A decent haul of outcomes for Moor_Pinot was not enough to stop him dropping a couple of places, as he still waits for that illusive first spot-on. A first 3 pointer for Jorash63, the Bristol Rovers 2-0, was enough to take him off the bottom, as he took advantage of a no show from Colukev.

THE TABLES (28 out of 280 played)
(Tie-breaker: Most 3 pointers, and then the first to post)

Week 5 Fixtures The first International break this season, so it is 6 games from the limited number of League 1 & 2 fixtures.

BARNSLEY v BRISTOL ROVERS
CHARLTON ATHLETIC v ROTHERHAM UNITED
WREXHAM v SHREWSBURY TOWN

Week 3 results

MANCHESTER CITY 4 IPSWICH TOWN 1

Erling Haaland scored a hat-trick as City showed Ipswich just how tough life in the Premier League can be with a comfortable victory, as the visitors scored with their only shot in the game. Everyone predicted a win for City, with 4 getting it spot-on.

PRESTON NORTH END 1 LUTON TOWN 0
Will Keane’s goal ended Preston’s league goal drought going back to April 9th, and ended a seven-match losing streak going back to last season. It proved enough to give new manager Paul Heckingbottom a winning start. Well done to noah4x4 for being the only to have this spot-on, and another 3 got the outcome. 14 predicted a win for Luton, with 11 going for a 2-1 in what was the weeks most predicted score.

CHARLTON ATHLETIC 2 BOLTON WANDERERS 0
Charlton underlined their early season promotion credentials with this win, as they have won all three matches in League One and not conceded a goal. Well done to oxfcolu for being the only one to get this spot-on, and a further 11 had the outcome.

WIGAN ATHLETIC 1 CRAWLEY TOWN 0
Wigan finally got their League One campaign up and running thanks to an own goal from Joy Mukena. It was needed as they could only muster one shot on target themselves. Only BFG and Lewis_1 had this spot-on, and another 14 got the outcome.

BARROW 4 PORT VALE 0
Four second-half goals gave Barrow an emphatic victory, as Vale concede their first league goals this season. Nobody got this spot-on, but 11 did have the outcome.

FLEETWOOD TOWN 0 GILLINGHAM 0
Gillingham remain top of League Two after this bore draw, despite only having one shot on target. Again nobody got this spot-on, though 9 did have the outcome.

On a week where Manchester City was a gimme, the other five didn't look so straight forward. But this was an occasion when things didn't turn out to be that difficult, with five home wins, and one draw, and the only goal scored by an away team being the Sammie Szmodics consolation for Ipswich. Plenty of home wins, but 3 pointers were still hard to come by, with only 8 in total. Those 3 pointers were shared out with eight members gettting one each, and it was Sector4, who had the Man City 4-1, and he was the only one to also have four outcomes, to make him the weeks top scorer with a decent 7 points. He only failed to get the Preston win to give him a full house.
How have the seasons first 18 games finished? 9 have ended in a win for the hosts, 5 have seen the vistors claim 3 points, and the other 4 have been drawn. The 2-0 is the top result so far with 4. There has only been one 1-1, and surprisingly no 2-1's or 0-1's as of yet.

In the Premier Four good outcomes for blueeagle were enough for him to remain top, and at the same time increase his lead by another point. Up four places into the other Charity Shield spot is oxfcolu after his good Charlton 2-0 prediction. He claims that on the most 3 pointer rule from basher2010, who got three outcomes. Four good outcomes also for thrillseeker, and he moves up a place to fourth, on the first to post rule from ghughes11, who was another to get three outcomes. Two outcomes for unitedwhites drops him three to sixth. Another to have three outcomes in this division was burnsieespana, and he remains seventh. Up a place to eighth is RSCOSWORTH, after he got the Man City 4-1 spot-on. Four good outcomes for Daniel leaves him as they only one still to have a 3 pointer in this division, but it was enough to get him out of the bottom three. The top scoring performance from Sector4 moved him up a couple of places in the relegation zone. The last four Premier titles have been won mfb_cufc and concordman, with two each, but it is the brothers who are currently propping up the rest at this early stage.

In Division One A solid 5 points, that included having the Wigan 1-0 spot-on, keeps BFG top for the second week running. After failing to trouble the scorer in the first week, Blue4U2 also has a solid 5 points, that included getting the Man City 4-1 spot-on, and that was enough to complete his recovery, by moving him up another three places into the other automatic spot. After being in that second spot for the first two weeks, Tropical_Us loses out on the most 3 pointer rule this week, despite having a good four outcomes. A decent 6 points for noah4x4, that included that good Preston 1-0 prediction, moves the pre-season favourite up four places to fourth. Three outcomes for bwildered means he heads a group of three on the first to post rule, as he drops to fifth. Up a place into the final play-off spot is Madeira163, after he had the Man City 4-1 spot-on. Three outcomes for gerry_us, as he loses out on the top six with the same number of points. Three outcomes for durham_exile leaves him a point from the play-offs in eighth. A good four outcomes for Moor_Pinot, to take him to ten for the season, more than anybody in both divisions, also puts him within a point of the play-offs in ninth. A first 3 pointer this season for Lewis_1, the Wigan 1-0, moves him up a couple of places to tenth. Outcomes for wesex_exile, Colukev and Jorash63, leaves them still searching for that elusive first 3 pointer, and they occupy the bottom three places in that order.

THE TABLES (18 out of 280 played)
(Tie-breaker: Most 3 pointers, and then the first to post)

The outcomes for wessex_exile should be 7, and not 4. Has been corrected in Week 4.

Week 4 Fixtures As is tradition the first guest pick 10 this season is the current Premier champ concordman. Don't forget it is an early start, with the deadline 12.30.

CARDIFF CITY v MIDDLESBROUGH (12.30)
COVENTRY CITY v NORWICH CITY (12.30)
BRISTOL ROVERS v CAMBRIDGE UNITED
CRAWLEY TOWN v BARNSLEY
READING v CHARLTON ATHLETIC
GILLINGHAM v CHESTERFIELD (12.30)
ACCRINGTON STANLEY v COLCHESTER UNITED
BROMLEY v CREWE ALEXANDRA
CARLISLE UNITED v TRANMERE ROVERS
WALSALL v CHELTENHAM TOWN

Week 2 results

ARSENAL 2 WOLVERHAMPTON WANDERERS 0

Arsenal got their Premier League campaign under way with a comfortable victory. Everyone predicted a win for Arsenal, with a massive 12 getting it spot-on, in what was the weeks most predicted score.

EVERTON 0 BRIGHTON & HOVE ALBION 3
Brighton's young manager Fabian Hurzeler started his Premier League career with an impressive win that meant 10-man Everton began their final season at Goodison Park in miserable fashion. Nobody had this spot-on, but 8 did get the outcome.

PLYMOUTH ARGYLE 1 HULL CITY 1
Plymouth boss Wayne Rooney was denied a first Championship victory as Lewie Coyle's delightful strike secured a point for Hull. A super 6 got this spot-on, and another 3 had the outcome.

LINCOLN CITY 1 BARNSLEY 2
Barnsley bounced back from their opening defeat at home to Mansfield to collect their first points of the new season with this win. A cool 4 had this spot-on, and a further 5 got the outcome.

WYCOMBE WANDERERS 2 BIRMINGHAM CITY 3
Birmingham claimed their first win of the League One campaign with a victory at winless Wycombe. Well done to oxfcolu for being the only one to get this spot-on, and another 19 had the outcome.

BRADFORD CITY 0 SALFORD CITY 0
Salford are still yet to score this season, after this bore draw. Nobody had this spot-on, though 5 did get the outcome. 19 predicted a win for Bradford.

After the struggles of Week 1, this was more like it, and mainly thanks to the Arsenal 2-0, we got a decent 23 spot-ons in total this week. An outstanding performance from blueeagle to get three 3 pointers, the Arsenal 2-0, Plymouth 1-1 and the Barnsley 2-1, plus the Brighton and Birmingham outcomes, to make him the weeks top scorer with a brilliant 11 points. Firing a blank in the first week of the season wouldn't seem like a conventional way to success, but the three members who managed that feat, hit back in a big way this week, by all getting two spot-ons. It was unitedwhites who came out best of the three by getting the Plymouth 1-1 and the Barnsley 2-1, and three outcomes, to give him an excellent 9 points. The other two were Blue4U2, who had the wins for Arsenal and Barnsley, and gerry_us, who to be fair did predict "Loads of points this week; unlike last week", and he got the Arsenal 2-0 and the Plymouth 1-1. They both also had two outcomes, to give them a very decent 8 points. One other member had two 3 pointers, that was burnsieespana, who also had the Arsenal 2-0 and the Plymouth 1-1, to give him a decent 6 points. Best of those to have one 3 pointer were BFG, basher2010 and ghughes11, who each had the Arsenal 2-0 and three outcomes, to give them all a decent 6 points.

In the Premier The outstanding performance from blueeagle not surprisingly takes him to the top, and with a decent 5 point lead. It was in Week 2 last season that concordman also had three 3 pointers. The 10 points he obtained took him to the top, and that is where he remained for the rest of the season. Will that be an omen for this seasons early leader? I am sure he certainly hopes so. The decent week for basher2010 moved him up a place to second. The excellent week for unitedwhites moved him up eight places to third. A decent week for ghughes11 moved him up a couple of places to fourth. A solid start to the season for thrillseeker and oxfcolu, and they tuck in fifth and sixth. A decent week for burnsieespana moves him up a place to seventh. Last weeks leader mfb_cufc lands on a snake, and slithers down seven places. Despite getting the Arsenal 2-0 spot-on, RSCOSWORTH drops a couple of places. That Arsenal 2-0 also got current champ concordman a first 3 pointer this season, but he drops to the bottom three. Remaining there is Daniel, as he still looks for that first spot-on after his promotion. After a no show last week, it was good to see Sector4 return, and the Arsenal outcome got him up and running.

In Division One The decent week for BFG moves him up a couple of places to the summit. A reward for getting 8 out of 12 results, with one spot-on. A solid week for Tropical_Us, that included getting the Plymouth 1-1 spot-on, keeps him in the other automatic spot. Despite having the Barnsley 2-1 spot-on, last weeks leader bwildered drops a couple of places to third. Up eight places each, after their dramatic turnaround in form, are gerry_us and Blue4U2, who are fourth and fifth. Having the Arsenal 2-0 spot-on was enough for durham_exile to obtain the final play-off place. A first 3 pointer this season for Madeira163, the Plymouth 1-1, and noah4x4, the Arsenal 2-0, along with an impressive four outcomes for Moor_Pinot, leaves all three within a point of the top six. Three outcomes for wessex_exile keeps him a point above the early skirmishes for the wooden spoon. That leaves the first to post rule dividing the three competing for that spot, after Jorash63, Lewis_1 and Colukev all had the Arsenal and Birmingham outcomes.

THE TABLES (12 out of 280 played)
(Tie-breaker: Most 3 pointers, and then the first to post)

Week 3 Fixtures

MANCHESTER CITY v IPSWICH TOWN
PRESTON NORTH END v LUTON TOWN
CHARLTON ATHLETIC v BOLTON WANDERERS
WIGAN ATHLETIC v CRAWLEY TOWN
BARROW v PORT VALE
FLEETWOOD TOWN v GILLINGHAM

Happy League 2024/25 Week 2 (of 38) - Deadline Saturday 17th August 15.00
at 22:47 10 Aug 2024

Week 1 results

LEEDS UNITED 3 PORTSMOUTH 3

Leeds get a 95th minute equaliser in this six goal thriller. Nobody got this spot-on, and only BFG had the outcome. Everyone else predicted a win for Leeds

OXFORD UNITED 2 NORWICH CITY 0
Oxford celebrated their return to Championship level for the first time since 1999 with a deserved victory. Again nobody had this spot-on, and only mfb_cufc got the outcome. 18 predicted a win for Norwich.

AFC WIMBLEDON 4 COLCHESTER UNITED 2
Wimbledon come from 2 goals down in 9 minutes to claim victory. Another game with no 3 pointer though 7 did have the outcome.

HARROGATE TOWN 0 BROMLEY 2
Bromley celebrate the first Football League game in their 132 year history with a victory. A final game this week with no 3 pointer, and only mfb_cufc got the outcome. 18 predicted a win for Harrogate.

PETERBOROUGH UNITED 0 HUDDERSFIELD TOWN 2
Huddersfield made a winning start to life in League One following relegation with an impressive win at last season’s defeated play-off finalists. Well done to basher2010 for being the only one to get this spot-on, and 4 more had the outcome. 14 predicted a win for Peterborough with 13 going for a 2-1 in what was the weeks most predicted score.

STOCKPORT COUNTY 2 CAMBRIDGE UNITED 0
Louie Barrie and Kyle Wootton were on target as Stockport marked their return to League One with a win. With Jayden Fevrier getting an assist for the second. A magnificent 7 had this spot-on, and a further 11 got the outcome.

Wow! Not the first week of the season we were looking for, with the first four games failing to have a 3 pointer, and only seven outcomes between them. It was left to Stockport to save the week from being a complete disaster, and their 2-0 win managed to obtain 32 of the weeks 49 total points. By getting that Stockport 2-0 spot-on, and the two outcomes mentioned above, they were enough to make mfb_cufc the weeks top scorer with those 5 points.

Unfortunately I haven't been able to get any new members. With the number of regular new posters in the past year. I was hopeful there might be some interest. I thought they would have looked at a Happy League thread to see what it is all about. I was a bit complacent thinking some would join, but with numbers at their lowest for a long time, I will make more of an effort next season. After dropping out early last season, I was hopeful of GOSBTS returning again for this season, but it has not happened. We have also lost TheRams from last season, but he is hopefully going to return next season.

In the Premier The top scoring performance from mfb_cufc obviously puts him top. In second on the first to post rule is blueeagle, after he had the Stockport 2-0 spot-on, and the Wimbledon outcome. Third at this early stage is basher2010 with that good Huddersfield 2-0 prediction, and the Stockport outcome. The next three places, separated on the first to post rule, are thrillseeker, oxfcolu and ghughes11, who all got the Stockport 2-0 spot-on. They are followed by RSCOSWORTH, who had the Wimbledon and Stockport outcomes. Then the final three to get on the scoreboard, thanks to having the Stockpoort outcome, were burnsieespana, concordman and Daniel, again decided by the first to post rule. Not so lucky was unitedwhites, and he fires a blank. There was a no show. from Sector4, and I am hopeful of him being back for Week 2.

In Division One Leading the way, thanks to posting first, is bwildered, after he got the Stockport 2-0 spot-on, and the Huddersfield outcome. That means Tropical_Us takes up the other automatic place, as he had the Stockport 2-0 spot-on, and the Wimbledon outcome. An impressive four outcomes for BFG puts him in third place, losing out on the most 3 pointer rule. Two outcomes for Moor_Pinot and durham_exile were enough to put them both in a play-off place at this early stage. Thanks to posting first noah4x4 takes up the final play-off place, as he is one of the six to get one outcome in this league. He got the Stockport one along with Madeira163 and Colukev. It was the Wimbledon one for Jorash63 and Lewis_1, and the Huddersfield one for wessex_exile. That leaves us with gerry_us and Blue4U2 firing blanks.

THE TABLES (6 out of 280 played)
(Tie-breaker: Most 3 pointers, and then the first to post)

Week 2 Fixtures

ARSENAL v WOLVERHAMPTON WANDERERS
EVERTON v BRIGHTON & HOVE ALBION
PLYMOUTH ARGYLE v HULL CITY
LINCOLN CITY v BARNSLEY

Message from the Chairman
at 18:04 2 Aug 2024

Colchester United Chairman Robbie Cowling has issued the following message to supporters:

"I hope this message finds everyone in good health and enjoying the recent sunshine.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone that attended the Open Day in July for making it the best Open Day we have held to date.

On a less positive note, I have had to once again take the decision to move the pre-season friendly that we had scheduled for 3pm this Saturday to an alternative venue. This decision has again been made because our stadium pitch is not quite ready for a full match.

I didn’t take this decision lightly and I am extremely disappointed that this denies many Colchester fans the chance to see the new squad in action before the season gets underway. However, given the progress of the pitch following extensive drainage work, and our commitment to having it in the best possible condition for competitive matches, I believe this was the only viable option.

Since we encountered major drainage issues with the pitch last season, I took full responsibility for finding solutions to get us through last season and for determining the necessary work to prevent these problems from recurring this season.

I still believe this work is in our best long-term interest, but I take full responsibility for the immediate issues that have led to the cancellation of two pre-season fixtures.

I commend everyone who worked extensively on the stadium pitch in such a short time, and I would like to thank Peterborough and Cambridge for their understanding.

The fixture will now be played at 3pm on Saturday at New Rowley Park, the stadium of St Neots Football Club. Thanks to St Neots for facilitating this game at such short notice.

All tickets and parking permits that were purchased for the original game at our stadium have been processed for refunds. This step has already been taken but it can take up to five days for the funds to reach the intended bank accounts.

Those who still wish to attend the game against Cambridge will be made very welcome by St Neots.

Thank you for all your continued support.

Up the U's.

Happy League 2024/25 Week 1 (of 38) - Deadline Saturday 10th August 12.30
at 16:36 22 Jul 2024

A warm welcome to all members old and new, as the Happy League is about to start its 22nd season. Since this time last season there are a number of new members to the site, who are posting on a regular basis. If any of you are reading this, I would like to take this opportunity to say you are all very welcome to join. It is a free to enter competition with prizes. Details of the four competions are below.

There is no need to register for the coming season, as any member who took part last season, will automatically be registered for this season. Just post your predictions to confirm your registration. For any new members thinking about joining, you can join just by posting you predictions for Week 1 on this thread.

The four competitions are:-

Happy League This is a 38 Week season. Fixtures will be 25 weeks of 6 games, and 13 of guest pick 10 games, making 280 in total. There are two divisions, with 12 members in the Premier, and all other members (including newcomers) in Division One. Three to be relegated from the Premier, and three promoted from Division One (the top two automatically, and one from the play-offs). A personalised Colchester United clock for the Premier Champion. The season will start on Saturday 10th August. For any newcomers it is 3 points for a correct score, and one point for a correct result. Fixtures can be found below.

After last seasons promotion and relegation the two leagues as they stand at the moment are (In alphabetical order):-

Happy Cup This competition is to continue in its original format as a knockout one. There will be replays for drawn games. The 1st Round would ideally have 32 members. If we fail to get this, then to have 16 members for the 2nd Round, there will be three member games where required, with the two top scorers going through. The competition will start with FA Cup 1st Round fixtures on 2nd November. The winner will get a personalised Colchester United mug. All details will be in the Happy Cup thread sometime in October.

Charity Shield This is an end of season competition, where the Premier Champion will play the Happy Cup winner in one semi-final, and the Premier runner-up will play the Division One Champion in the other semi-final. The winners to play in the final, where the winner will get a personalised shield.

U'sual Champions League The qualification for this competition will be decided on 29th December (Week 21). Last seasons winner blueeagle will qualify automatically, the other eleven qualifiers will be the highest point scorers over the two divisions on the aforementioned date. The competition will start on 4th March, when the Champions League Round Of 16 begins. The winner will get a personalised replica Champions League trophy.

A reminder of a rule, mainly for any newcomers. That is anybody failing to post their predictions four weeks in a row, will be dismissed from all Happy League competitions. There is no need for this to happen. If you are not going to be around to post your predictions any week, just let me know in advance what default score you require, e.g. all 1-0's, 2-1's etc. Anybody failing to post anything at all will receive no points for that week.

Week 1 Fixtures. Don't forget it is an early start for the seasons first games, with the deadline 12.30.

LEEDS UNITED v PORTSMOUTH (12.30)
OXFORD UNITED v NORWICH CITY (12.30)

Good luck everybody.

The Champions League Final

01/06/2024 BORUSSIA DORTMUND v REAL MADRID (Kick-off 20.00)

Predictions There are nine categories to predict. For categories C-G, as usual there will be 2pts if spot-on, and one point for whoever is closest (or 1pt each if equidistant). Note that for the final alone, a spot-on result will not count towards the tie-break, it's just the total points scored. All predictions will be for the normal time match, extra-time or penalties will not count. The only questions you can't match exactly on are (A), (B) and (TB), so whilst there is no tie-break advantage to predicting first, predicting last may mean not having the options preferred available. Deadline for all predictions is Saturday 1st June 20.00.

(A) Result - 5pts spot-on, 2pts for the outcome.
(B) Goal scorer - pick one. get 1pt for each goal they score (including own goals).
(C) Attempts on target - 2pts for spot-on, 1pt if closest.
(D) Attempts off target - 2pts for spot-on, 1pt if closest.
(E) Corners - 2pts for spot-on, 1pt if closest.
(F) Fouls - 2pts for spot-on, 1pt if closest.
(G) Yellow cards - 2pts for spot-on, 1pt if closest.
(H) Red cards - 1pt for spot-on only.
(TB) The tie-break is the minute for the first substitution, closest (either side) wins. In the unlikely event that there are no substitutions, this will be counted as 0 (zero) minutes. Substitutions in injury-time will be counted as 45' or 90

All stats will be taken from the BBC Sport website, just in case there are discrepancies elsewhere.

Good luck everybody.

at 18:09 21 May 2024

Honours List for the 2023/24 season

Premier Champion concorman. A second title in the last three seasons for him. Runner-up RSCOSWORTH. To give him his highest ever finish.

Happy Cup Winner concordman. A second win in the last three seasons, giving him the League and Cup double for the second time. Runner-up durham_exile.

Charity Shield Winner Daniel. Well deserved after scoring 12 points in both the Semi-final and Final. Runner-up concordman.

Division One Champion Daniel. An instant return to the Premier for him, after being relegated the previous season. Runner-up burnsieespana. Promoted through the play-offs basher2010.

U'sual Champions League Winner blueeagle. Runner-up bwildered, 3rd place Blue4U2

Thank you everyone for your kind comments throughout the season, as always they are very much appreciated.

This is how the leagues will look for the 2024/25 season (In alphabetical order)

How did the 2023/24 games finish Remarkably it was almost a replica of the 2022/23 season, with just 5 more homes, 2 less aways and 3 less draws.

2014/15 Home wins 131 (43.67%) Away wins 94 (31.33%) Draws 75 (25.00%)
2015/16 Home wins 107 (35.66%) Away wins 119 (39.67%) Draws 74 (24.67%)
2016/17 Home wins 129 (43.00%) Away wins 91 (30.33%) Draws 80 (26.67%)
2017/18 Home wins 138 (46.00%) Away wins 88 (29.33%) Draws 74 (24.67%)
2018/19 Home wins 123 (41.00%) Away wins 94 (31.33%) Draws 83 (27.67%)
2019/20 Home wins 126 (42.00%) Away wins 97 (32.33%) Draws 77 (25.67%)
2020/21 Home wins 124 (41.33%) Away wins 105 (35.00%) Draws 71 (23.67%)
2021/22 Home wins 118 (39.33%) Away wins 100 (33.33%) Draws 82 (27.33%)
2022/23 Home wins 123 (41.00%) Away wins 104 (34.67%) Draws 73 (24.33%)
2023/24 Home wins 128 (42.67%) Away wins 102 (34.00%) Draws 70 (23.33%)

In the ten seasons of my administration the 3000 games have ended with:-
Home wins 1247 (41.57%) Away wins 994 (33.13%) Draws 759 (25.30%).

Extended added time As can be seen from the figures above, it made no difference to the final outcome, but not surprisingly there were more goals scored compared to previous seasons, but not a lot, as can be seen from last 10 seasons figures below. Just like the homes, aways and draws, the number of goals in a season are nearly always the same, with 8 out of the 10 seasons only having a difference of 16 goals between them. There was a blip in the 2016/17 season, and then in the season just finished the extended time created more goals, and the trend is likely to continue. Even though the average goals per game was up, it was still below the average for the four English Leagues, mainly due to the fact we have less Premier League fixtures to predict. The figures for the 2023/24 season were Premier League 1246 goals (3.28 average goals per game), Championship 1480 goals (2.68 average goals per game), League 1 1427 goals (2.58 average goals per game), League 2 1645 (2 98 average goals per game).

2023/24 823 goals (2.74 average goals per game)
2022/23 794 goals (2.65 average goals per game)
2021/22 780 goals (2.60 average goals per game)
2020/21 768 goals (2.56 average goals per game)
2019/20 780 goals (2.60 average goals per game)
2018/19 790 goals (2.63 average goals per game)
2017/18 778 goals (2 59 average goals per game)
2016/17 826 goals (2.75 average goals per game)
2015/16 778 goals (2.59 average goals per game)
2014/15 781 goals (2.60 average goals per game)

The results In the Final tables thread noah4x4 quoted "For many seasons I have enjoyed HLPL success by avoiding predicting draws and I suspect that in this last season the incidence of 1-1 and 2-2 have been uncharacteristically high (?), whilst 1-0, 0-1, 2-1 and 1-2 probably feature on far fewer occasions than normal? Extended added time has probably increased the average goals per game (?) and I reckon that is where I need to adjust future tactics". In answer to the points he made, the draws were at a 10 season low, mainly due to the bore draw also being at a 10 season low. Though the 1-1 was once again the top result, and the 2-2 improved on its disappointing return the previous season. The extended added time did increase the average goals per game, this had the 2-1 and the 1-2 taking over from the 1-0 and the 0-1 as best for a home and away win. The 0-2 also had its highest 10 season score.

The 2024/25 EFL fixtures are due out on the 26th June, and details for the new Happy League season will follow soon afterwards. In the meantime there are 2024 Euro's to look forward too, and dare I say it an English team as winners.

Semi-finals 1st leg results

Sane (53) Kane (57 pen)
REAL MADRID 2
Vinicius Junior (24, 83 pen)

BORUSSIA DORTMUND 1 PARIS SAINT GERMAIN 0

Latest scores

Blue4U2 2 bwildered 4
Having both the outcomes, and the two Junior goals, gives bwildered
a decent lead. Two good goalscorer points, with Sane and Kane, keeps Blue4U2 in touch, but he may require a spot-on from the last two fixtures, if he is to go through.

blueeagle 1 burnsieespana 2
They both got a point for the Kane goal, but it is burnsieespana who has a slight advantage thanks to getting the Borussia outcome.

Semi-finals 2nd leg Fixtures Both kick-off at 20.00

Tuesday 7th May
PARIS SAINT GERMAIN v BORUSSIA DORTMUND
(Agg 0-1)

Wednesday 8th May
REAL MADRID v BAYERN MUNICH
(Agg 2-2)

The scoring Keeping with the format for this stage of the competition, in addition to score predictions, please predict two goal-scorers from each game as well, these can of course be two from the same side. Four points, to put more emphasis, for a spot-on score prediction, one point for the correct outcome, and one point for each goal scored (including own goals) by either of your nominated goal-scorers. As there is an advantage posting first regarding goal scorers, the member posting second can have up to two predictions the same.

Tie-break If competitors can't be separated by number of spot-ons, for a tie-break please also predict the minute of the first substitution in the Real Madrid v Bayern Munich fixture. Your tie-break prediction must be made before that match kicks off.

As always, half-time subs are 46th minute, and injury-time substitutions will be either 45 or 90 minutes. If there are no substitutions at all, closest to zero will win

Score, goal-scorer and substitute tie-break predictions will be for the end of normal time, extra-time and/or penalties will not count.

Good luck everybody.

HL 2023/24 Charity Shield & Div. One Play-off Final - Deadline 4th May 12.30
at 21:24 27 Apr 2024

Semi-finals results

WEST HAM UNITED 2 LIVERPOOL 2

Liverpool's Premier League title hopes seem all but over after ex-U's loanee Michail Antonio scored to rescue a point for West Ham. No points for anyone from this game.

MANCHESTER UNITED 1 BURNLEY 1
Man Utd goalkeeper Andre Onana cost his side victory as Zeki Amdouni converted a late penalty to grab a priceless point for relegation-threatened Burnley. Well done to Daniel for being the only one to have this spot-on, and only BFG got the outcone.

WOLVERHAMPTON WANDERERS 2 LUTON TOWN 1
Wolves ended a six-game winless run in the Premier League and piled pressure on relegation-threatened Luton with this victory. 3 got this spot-on, and a further 4 had the outcome.

HUDDERSFIELD TOWN 1 BIRMINGHAM CITY 1
Huddersfield were all but relegated from the Championship despite a battling draw against fellow strugglers Birmingham, whose own status now depends on results going their way in the final round of fixtures. 3 had this spot-on, and nobody got the outcome.

MILLWALL 1 PLYMOUTH ARGYLE 0
Millwall struck late to secure a narrow win over Plymouth, piling pressure on The Pilgrims at the bottom of the Championship. Everyone predicted a win for Millwall, with 3 getting it spot-on.

SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY 3 WEST BROMWICH ALBION 0
Wednesday maintained their push to avoid Championship relegation with a thumping victory over West Brom. Nobody had this spot-on, but 2 did get the outcome.

EXETER CITY 1 OXFORD UNITED 2
Oxford secured a League One play-off place with this narrow victory. 4 got this spot-on, and one more had the outcome.

LINCOLN CITY 0 PORTSMOUTH 2
Lincoln missed out on the League One play-off spots as they lose to Champions Portsmouth in the final game of the season. Well done to basher2010 for being the only one to have this spot-on, and another 3 got the outcome.

READING 3 BLACKPOOL 2
Blackpool's League One play-off hopes were left in tatters by Reading, who finished a miserable campaign off the field with an on-field high. No points for anybody from this game.

WREXHAM 2 STOCKPOORT COUNTY 1
Wrexham toasted promotion to League One, as they came from behind to beat League Two champions Stockport. Well done to concordman for being the only one to have this spot-on, and only Daniel got the outcome.

Some great performances today, that produced a very good 16 spot-ons in total, as certain members showed just why they are in these end of season Semi-finals. This is how those Semi-finals finished:-

Charity Shield Semi-finals

concordman 11 (3) durham_exile 5 (1)
A comfortable win for concordman, after he got the wins for Millwall, Oxford and Wrexham spot-on. Just the Oxford 2-1 spot-on for durham_exile in reply.

RSCOSWORTH 11 (3) Daniel 12 (3)
Wow, what a game, that didn't deserve to have a loser. But it is RSCOSWORTH who unfortunately has to lose, despite having three 3 pointers, the wins for Wolves and Oxford, and the Huddersfield 1-1. Three 3 pointers also for Daniel, the wins for Wolves and Millwall, and the Man utd 1-1, and getting the Wrexham outcome proved to be the defining outcome, to put him into the final.

Division One play-off Semi-finals

basher2010 10 (3) Tropical_Us 5 (1)
A comfortable win for basher2010, who was another one to get three 3 pointers, the wins for Wolves, Millwall and Portsmouth. Just a 3 pointer for the Huddersfield 1-1 for Tropical_Us in reply.

bwildered 8 (2) BFG 3
A comfortable win for bwildered, after he had the Huddersfield 1-1 and the Oxford 2-1 spot-on. Only three outcomes for BFG.

That makes to the two finals as being:-

Charity Shield final

concordman v Daniel

Division One Play-off final

basher2010 v bwildered

For these finals, there will be a replay for any drawn games. It will be the Premier League fixtures on 11/12/13 May. The tie-breaker rules will only apply for any replay if needed. No more than four predictions the same as your opponent, and all 10 games to be posted at the same time please.

The Fixtures and don't forget it is a 12.30 deadline

ARSENAL v AFC BOURNEMOUTH (12.30)
BRENTFORD v FULHAM (15.00)
BURNLEY v NEWCASTLEUNITED (15.00)
