Referee Roger East takes charge of Dale for the first time in two years when we make our debut at Colchester’s Weston Homes Community Stadium on Saturday.

The Wiltshire-based official was last seen on Easter Monday 2009 for the 1-1 draw at Shrewsbury, in which Chris Dagnall’s spectacular volley cancelled out Grant Holt’s opener for The Shrews.

Twelve months prior to that, Mr East was in the middle for another 1-1 draw as Dale made their first visit to Dagenham.

A dead ringer for Crystal Maze presenter Richard O’Brien, Mr East has taken charge of 29 games this term, showing 102 yellow cards and three red.

This will be the first time he has met Shrewsbury or Dale this season, but 12 months ago this weekend he was the referee for our 1-1 draw at Dagenham.

Last season, his first on the league list, he was in charge of Shrewsbury’s home games against Brentford and Darlington.
