Smith signs on as Edwards cover Friday, 10th Aug 2012 15:21 by Col With back up keeper Matty Edwards ruled out for the first part of the season with a wrist injury, trialist goalkeeper Ben Smith has signed a short term deal with the club. With Josh Lillis having been given the nod for the starting goalkeeper position, Dale were left without cover following Edwards' wrist injury and have been forced to use German goalkeeping coach Bernhard Hirmer as back up throughout pre-season. However, after a trial spell, goalkeeper Ben Smith has been brought in on a short term deal to provide cover and competition for Josh Lillis during Edwards' absence.
