Chelsea Has Gone, Now For Newcastle

Garry Monk often talks about us taking things one game as a time and if that is the case then it is time to put the talk about last weekend's Chelsea game behind us and move onto Newcastle as Premier League football returns to the Liberty Stadium.

It has been three long months since we last played a league match at home - a defeat to Manchester City - but that will change this weekend when former England manager Steve McLaren brings his Newcastle side to South Wales.

It will be a special day at the Liberty as it is expected to be a record crowd that backs the Swans with over 21,000 expected at the stadium for the first time for a sporting event. This has been made possible by the extra seats added to the stadium that could even see us have 20,000 home fans inside the ground with Newcastle's 'legendary support' expected to be just over 1,000 at tops.

What we have to of course hope for when Saturday comes around is of course the desire, passion and tempo that we saw at Stamford Bridge. When you look at the team that took to the pitch on Saturday and realise that we did it without seeing the likes of Nathan Dyer, Leon Britton, Modou Barrow and Franck Tabanou amongst others then you realise just what a good squad it is that Garry Monk has put together.

The luxuries that we can afford ourselves at the moment put anything we have had in the past into the shade and you understand just why the optimism is so high around Swansea at this point in time.

There was much talk about the build up to the Chelsea game and I hope that we can see the same in the build up to this game with is arguably more important to us. The point that we gained at Stamford Bridge was very much a bonus on top of what was expected but what we have on Saturday is a game that we are expected to win and that brings a separate piece of pressure.

What we do know though is that we have a manager who prepares meticulously for every possible eventuality and that should see us confident as the week builds but for now let's remember Chelsea has passed and the focus should now be on Newcastle.
