Minamino In Talks For St Mary's Return
at 01:38:17

Strikes me he's another 50:50 player and we have plenty of them. Looks expensive at the fees being quoted. If Walcott leaves then maybe.

Saints Sack Coaches As Long Needed Revamp Begins

Never a great moment when people lose their jobs. Plus it sounds like they were told about it via zoom rather than in person. However I am glad that a review has been carried out and rapid action has been taken.

Southampton At Leicester City The Verdict
at 16:04:49

Crashing and burning for a large portion of the season season for a second time in succession leaves a bad taste in my mouth. The problem is Ralph is showing for a big chunk of the season how good the team can be. The natural suspicion has to be that a different manager could get the good performances and then arrange things to minimise the bad.

I agree that a serious review is needed and action taken over the summer. Perhaps Ralph needs more support, perhaps his time is up. Those best placed to know the full facts need to consider where our performances are going wrong and what sensible remedies can allow the club to progress.

Southampton At Leicester City The Preview
at 10:20:59

Despite Ralph huffing and puffing I'm expecting the usual on the beach level of performance today. Rather that than the torment that Leeds and Burnley fans are going to go through.

Not too sure what incredible transformation in playing staff and coaching staff is expected over the summer. Sports Republic aren't going to put any real money in themselves. So it will be a gradual transformation financed by player sales/ freed wages.

I think some players are looking to be on their way, Bednarek, Djenepo Redmond, Walcott, Long and obviously Forster are almost certainties for me, Romeu highly likely. However I suspect unless there are cheap alternatives then most of those semi regulars will be filled by existing squad players. Tella, Smallbone, Diallo, Adam Armstrong are now in the frame, good or bad.

In my view we need 4 players 1st choice keeper, Solid DM captain material, Midfielder/Winger who can make intelligent long passes, 25+ goal a season striker. Those additions would bring the best out of the other players. Budget for that 80-100 million - so unless JWP or Salisu, is cashed in, I really can't see it happening in one hit.

Just got to wait and see but I can't see the manager and half the squad being sacked.

Saints In Chase For Hull City Striker

Even when we buy strikers that score loads in the Championship they don't score freely in the P L. Sounds like agent talk to me.

Southampton v Liverpool The Preview

I just want to watch a good game of football with our mercurial Saints team competing against the big money team. Roared on by the great atmosphere there was at St Mary's a few months back.

Too much to ask?

Southampton At Brentford The (Damning) Verdict
at 13:27:30

Too many players off the boil and a Manager who didn't make subs to change anything.

A lot seems to be resting on transfers in the summer. Sports Republic will not be investing so any falls in value of players are going to make life difficult. I can't really see us getting rid of 10 players and getting 10 in so I just hope it's quality over quantity.

Napoli Targeting Southampton Defender
at 12:21:10

Despite the bad press, he's our most consistent stopper.

However, he isn't on a par with our great CB's of the past though. We also have a couple of good players coming through, Lyanco and Simeu in a year or two ,who are going to be looking for game time over the next few years.

Add to this the perennial unsated desire for an old experienced hand to show some leadership on the pitch.

Factor in the sarcastic claps to the fans a few weeks ago plus Ralph's comments and it would seem that he's already thinking about being elsewhere.

If a decent offer actually comes in, I think we will take it.

What Does Next Season Hold For Armando Broja
at 11:11:45

Not giving Armstrong regular playing time seems a bit shortsighted. However unless we play passes into space we aren't giving him the best service to enable him to play to his strengths.

Broja fits the ball to feet possession style that we play. However he doesn't do much else when he hasn't got the ball.

They both need more time to develop. Now that the Broja bubble has burst, I can see him signing another year's loan. Unless we change our style of play, I'm not sure Armstrong is going to fare any better next year.

Southampton V Crystal Palace The Verdict
at 12:10:54

JWP and OR are great midfielders but neither strike me as on field leaders. If one leaves this summer I think there is an obvious vacancy.

I find it very frustrating that we never seem able to hold the ball in the second half we just seem to pass the ball back to the opposition and keep the pressure on ourselves.

Once again when it seemed like we had made good strides forward, the season peters out with no real progress. Hopefully with some sensible over the summer, we can make some progress next season.

Charlie Austin Is Wrong ! Staying At Saints Is The Best Option For James Ward Prowse
at 13:40:16

JWP and Charlie Austin are like Polar opposites.

Both blessed with a particular skill, however JWP was a secret only Saints fans knew about, he spent years finding the right role and when he did put absolutely everything into it and leaves it all on the pitch. JWP is on track to go to the world cup playing for Saints.

Austin a natural goalscorer was lauded and pigeonholed from day one and the effort he has put into his career has fallen every year, until now he is barely up to League 2 standard.

James, please don't listen to anything Charlie says.

It's great to see a young'un play like this in a B game however as many find out, regardless of technical skill, there is a big leap needed in attitude and a lot of hard miles to cover to make a successful jump to the senior team. Fingers crossed for Tyler.

Tino Livramento Set To Be Out For 9 Months

These used to be career ending injuries. Thankfully treatment has moved on so much that he should have every hope of making a full recovery. Just like JWP, I'm sure everyone is sending him positive vibes for his long recuperation.

Selfishly, luckily we are well covered at full back. Perhaps Thierry Small can now get some more game time.

Pie in the sky stuff. Forget the cut price transfer fee, we wouldn't get anywhere near matching his wages.

Great striker for one season. We've all moved on.

Southampton V Arsenal The Verdict
at 10:12:45

Ralph chose well yesterday and our players responded with a great performance.

Forster played out of his skin. I hope Southgate was watching.

Good to see players like Valery and Lyanco showing progress. Yes some individual mistakes but collectively these were dealt with.

Midfield also looked to have raised their game from last week. MOTD highlighted JWP charging back to block Saka.

Agree Long showed his experience to bring the win home.

Saints Injury News Ahead Of The Visit Of Arsenal
at 14:46:11

It seems bonkers to think but I would actually be interested in a Valery-Lyanco partnership at the moment. Lyanco to do the roughy toughy fist pumpy stuff and Jan V to bring the ball out.

I think Tino needs a rest, so KWP and Perraud at full backs.

Redmond in for Mo E or even Stu A and please an end to the unbalanced shape that caused a lot of problems last week.

Romeu also looks a bit off the pace so start with Diallo.

Adam A still looks to be adjusting so I would start Tella and Che. Broja can be used as a sub.

Southampton V Chelsea The Verdict
at 13:54:04

Just a couple of thoughts.

We need leadship in attack and midfield not just defence. Whilst I think JWP is a great player. I don't really see him as a leader. He's captain on his technical and athletic merit rather than his character. Romeu has looked slightly out of sorts recently to me. If he is thinking of making a last move, then an experienced DM might be a good move.

While I don't have any desire to see Ralph go, one 'curse' that would be lifted is the growing psychological weight of the now 3 heavy losses. Our players appear to now fall to pieces if they go several goals down, I can only assume this is because they lose their motivation and become rabbits caught in headlights waiting for the extra goals. Even Bielsa's Leeds at his most gung ho moments didn't lose by these scores!

I really don't like seeing all our players stood with their hands on their hips after half an hour not really knowing what to do after another goal has gone in.

I'm really hoping to see a response against Arsenal.

Saints Linked With German Central Defender

Southampton At Leeds United The Verdict
at 12:12:14

It was always going to be an interesting game with both Managers having a good idea how the other would play and trying to outwit the other.

Leeds played 4222, sounds familiar, so we started with a Diamond in midfield 4 1 2 1 2.

However Leeds seemed to outplay us for large stretches in the first half. We switched on a bit after their first goal. The defence had played fairly well up until this but the goal looked like a bit of a mixup with no one really taking control.

Second half we again started a bit slowly but then came into it. KWP took on half the Leeds team and then JWP unleashed an absolute belter.

Then the usual end to end stuff, both sides not really being able to do much in the final third to be in danger of actually finishing anything.

I thought we looked good. Better than we have done for weeks, so I will take that as a positive.

Defence looked good, Salisu, KWP and Tino all played well, Midfield was operating at 80%, although Diallo looked the best I've seen him so still room for improvement, Attack needs some smarts, Che- too many weak shots, extra touches and wasteful flicks and Broja left looking his age. He needs a rest. I thought Tella perked things up when he came on. Imo Armstrong should have been given a chance too.

Leeds crowd was noisy but Saints fans were sounding louder at the end.

Good match to watch. Valuable point.
