Refwatch Preview: Darlington (a)
Refwatch Preview: Darlington (a)

Dale head to Darlington on Tuesday night for a rare non-televised fixture. TVOS does his usual Refwatch preview on the game's official - Mr Steve Rushton.

We have another referee in his first season on Tuesday night when Steve Rushton travels up to the north-east from Stoke for our customary midweek game at the Darlington Arena.

This will be his fifth League Two game of the campaign, one of which was Cheltenham’s hilarious last-minute win at Bury just over two weeks ago.

Mr Rushton is one of a small group of officials who has followed his father onto the Football League list. Jim Rushton was a referee from the late-1980s to the early-1990s and appeared at Spotland many times, as well as taking charge of several away games, including a Littlewoods Cup tie at Burnley in September 1988.

So far this term, Rushton junior has produced only eight yellow cards in his five games (four league, plus one JPT), so hopefully he will keep his cards in his pocket to prolong Dale’s excellent disciplinary record since the campaign started.
