Craig Beattie is looking to kick start his Swansea career after a rare start in the Carling Cup

Beattie made his first start of the season in Tuesday's Carling Cup exit at Wigan and he now hopes he is ready to put his bad luck behind him and push on with his Swansea career.

"I really want to kick on from here," Beattie told the Evening Post.

"I've not had an easy time since I came down to Swansea — it's my first start since March.

"I spent the majority of last season in the stands for whatever reason and unfortunately I picked up a nasty injury at the end of pre-season.

"First of all I am just delighted to be back in the squad and back playing football games again.

"But I've worked really hard to get back and I am desperate to impress the manager.

"I felt pretty good out there," he added.

"Quality-wise I know I've got more to give the team and I just hope I get the opportunity to show the gaffer what I've got.

"I wanted to do my bit for the team at Wigan.

"We wanted to press them high up the pitch and I had to set the tone for that.

"Even when I came off at 65 minutes, fitness-wise I felt really good.

"I'm just desperate for a run of games now, but it is hard because I know the boys have done really well.

We might not be able to compete financially with teams like Wigan, but we showed plenty of ability and togetherness as a group," added Beattie, who had a goal controversially chalked off for offside.

"That means we can compete with most teams.

"We are going to concentrate on the league now. We know how tough it is and we watched Cardiff's game against Leeds, so we have to keep working hard.

"We've played QPR and if they are the benchmark then we won't be too far away."
