"My Best Ever Signing"
Saturday, 28th Sep 2013 11:00

I guess there wasn't much surprise when Michael Laudrup named Michu as his best ever signing this week especially when you factor in the cost of the player and the goal return in a little more than one season since his arrival.

When he arrived at the Liberty last season, few would have admitted to knowing much about the player but given his goalscoring record in Spain maybe it shouldnt be that surprising that he had the impact that he did although it amazes me to think how he managed to go under the radar of so many scouting systems.

It took just £2 million to bring him to the Liberty and his impact was almost immediate as he scored twenty-two goals last season en route to taking the Swans to a top half Premier League finish as well as a place in Europe through their win in the Capital One Cup.

And this season has started just as prolifically with five goals under his belt already and a strike rate since is arrival of one goal every two games. He has also been all but ever present in the Premier League, starting 40 of the 43 league games since he arrived and he goes into today's game looking to score in his fourth consecutive game in which he has played.

So when you look at all that it was no surprise to hear the words of the manager this week when he said “I always try to get good deals for players, but Michu must be my best buy because of his importance and the impact he has had and still has on the squad.

“It’s not only about goalscoring. He wants to win and can change a game in one second. We have seen what he is capable of - he can play up front or in behind and that’s a very difficult position.

“He’s a very important player for us and it’s impossible to put a value on him.”

I think the answer to the last part of that statement is that Michu is fast approaching priceless for the Swans at the moment and has he goes in search of the goals that will gun down Arsenal we count ourselves lucky that we found him ahead of anyone else.
