City's Revenge
Sunday, 16th Feb 2014 11:50

City got back to winning ways with a impressive performance against Jose Mourhino's Chelsea.

City were boosted by the news that both Samri Nasri and Javi García were both fit to play, Garcia started in midfield whist Nasri had to settle for a place on the bench. Up front there was another start for Stevan Jovetic along side Eden Dzeko. After the previous clash between the two sides it was Mourhino who won all the praise for his tactics in the league win, but it was City's Pellegrini who came out on top with his tactics.

City started the game brightly pressing high up the pitch and snapping in to every tackle giving Chelsea players no time on the ball.City nearly took the lead after 15 minutes when Jovetic hit the crossbar after Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech had spilled a drive from Yaya Toure. Only a minute later City were 1-0 up, the move started with left back, Gaël Clichy, and went across the pitch in a diagonal line, via Silva and Edin Dzeko, before the ball reached Jovetic who slid the ball past Cech in the Chelsea goal.

City kept the pressure up and Cech had to be at his best to keep at a curling effort from Eden Dzeko and the striker nearly got on the end of a James Milner cross just before the break. Mourhino made a change at half time taking off the inactive Samuel Eto'o with winger Mohamed Salah but it was City who continued to control the game. City introduced Samri Nasri and it was the French International who exchanged passes with David Silva to score the goal that effectively ended the game two-thirds of the way in.

Chelsea got the benefit of the offside flag a few minutes later as Lescott's effort was ruled out after he had pounced on a rebound from the impressive Javi Garcia's header. A different City turned up for this clash with Chelsea and will go into the draw for the Quarter Finals today.
