Saints Manager ! Patience Is A Virtue
Thursday, 5th Jun 2014 12:41

Some Saints supporters are expressing their concern about the fact that just over a week since Mauricio Pochettino departed there has still been no replacement appointed.

Saints supporters are an impatient bunch judging by the number who are posting on social media complaining that there has still been no replacement for Mauricio Pochettino.

They would do well to remember that when Alan Pardew was sacked it was mid season but it still took us nearly three weeks before we appointed Nigel Adkins, the point I am making is that if you are going to get the right man then you need to take the time to make sure you are getting the best mn for the job.

Given that it is the close season there is actually no immediate rush to get him in place, very little business in football is done before the start of July, although we would not want to wait that long before getting our new man in, a week or two now is not an issue, indeed its actually an advantage as it helps us bat off a few enquiries about our players.

So Saints supporters need to trust the board to get it right and they need to give them the time to get the right man in place, Im sure that the board were not taken completely by surprise by Pochettino's departure, however its difficult to do too much before you actually know that the manager is defiantely going to leave, football is an industry were very little can actually be done in secret, when you are trying to hang on to a manager as we were with Pochettino, you have to show faith in him and you want him to stay, its therefore difficult to approach potential replacements at that stage, if you do its easy to give the impression that you are not as keen on your manager staying as he would like, its a fine line.

But even given that we would have been doing our homework there is still a lot to be done and these things take time, this is a time for calmness and I would prefer the board to take their time and get the right man rather than make the wrong appointment, this is an attractive job, we are not short of candidates, but when you have a lot of options it means it takes more time to sift through them.

Quiet agree Nick. Saints could take another 3 weeks yet until after the World Cup. Everyones mostly on holiday so until there back was the hurry.

The odds on Claudio Ranieri have dropped from about 40/1 this morning to about 8/1 this afternoon. Is he being interviewed today I wonder? I'd be happy with his appointment. Him or Koeman.
Definitely not Felix Magath though!!! What's that all about????
I was really surprised by Laudrup's comments as well; what club does he think is gonna come in for him?? Southampton not big enough for him????

Laudrup's comments prove he is a small time manager

IMO the board can take as long as they want with this appointment as nobody i have seen supposedly linked with the vacancy so far excites me and none of these that have been linked are at the standard or & level of Manager / Coach that our previous incumbent was at!

Well newbury I have to agree that none so far are that exciting. Magat, Bruce etc no thanks!
Koeman is probably the most interesting.
However we cant say that none is at the level of Mp. To be honest none of us had ever heard of him when he pitched up.

Hey Sonic, totally agree that hardly any of us knew of MP before he signed on the dotted line but what I meant was the level of manager/coach that MP currently is. Although I assume that will not last that long because Spurs will ruin him!
