Not In My Lifetime Fans Interview: Victoria Gregory
Friday, 11th Jul 2014 12:33

Victoria Gregory joins us next for our fans interview. Victoria is a Official @MCFC Blue Blogger and founding member of @ChicagoMCFC.

1) When did you become a City fan and why?

I've been a City fan all my life, thanks to my parents who brought me up proper! Even when we moved to Sheffield through my school years in the 80s/90s when I was taunted for being a Blue my loyalty never wavered. Once a Blue, always a Blue.

2) What is your favourite City moment of all time/most treasured memory?

When my dad and I visited Maine Road, we had a pre-match ritual of getting fish and chips from the City Chippy and standing by the players entrance to eat them and watch the team arrive. When we'd finished eating, I'd take the wrappings and run over to the bin by the side of the road to throw them away then run back and we'd head off to our seats. It was a, as it was then called, Coca-Cola Cup match against Nottingham Forest and after running back to my dad, he started to walk towards the players entrance and I thought he'd lost the plot. "What are you doing? You can't go in that door!" I squealed at him. He just turned to me calmly and said "we can today". He'd got tickets for the Director's Box, and we got to go to the players lounge after the match too. I was completely overwhelmed that day!

If it's any player from any era that could be put into a time-machine and play now, then Georgi Kinkladze. It would be beautiful to watch him playing with our current team.

4) Manuel Pellegrini, Your opinion please?

Love him. He's cool, calm and collected and clearly inspires respect. Seeing the players throwing him in the air when we won the title just showed how great their relationship is with him.

5) Best and worst moments of last season?

Let's start with the bad as there were fewer of those - worst moment was losing away to Cardiff in the second game as we'd come out the gates so strong against Newcastle. Thankfully those 3 points weren't as essential as they could have been if Liverpool had slipped up (literally!). Best moment was being at the last game of the season, but that's an obvious one, so instead I'll go for spanking Arsenal 6-3. I live in Chicago now and it was a 6.45am kickoff in the depths of a brutal winter. The Chicago MCFC group watch matches at a pub that's also home to the Chicago Gooners so it was a very lively morning!

6) Transfers have already been made, but anyone else you would like to come in?

I would love to see James Rodriguez wearing a City shirt.

7) Any players you would happily drive to his new club?

I've never been one to bad mouth or dislike a player if he's wearing a City shirt, so no - there's nobody I'd be happy to see leave.

8) Favourite current player?

Tough to pick just one, but I'll go for Pablo Zabaleta - he's solid as a rock; the consummate workhorse. And you have to admire anyone who openly loves Status Quo.

9) Any players that have been let go this summer that you would have liked to stay?

I've got a lot of time for Joleon Lescott, but it's the right thing for him to leave as he should be getting first team football. I expect to see him in the American MLS at some point in his future.

10) Who was your first footballing hero and who are your favourite all time player/s?

I was in love with Niall Quinn in my early teenage years and had posters of him all over my bedroom walls. Favourite all time players: Lake, Kinkladze, Rösler, Dickov, Aguero, Kompany, Zabaleta, DeMichelis, ...... too many!! All of them! All of the players!

11) And finally, What are your expectations for the new season?

To retain the title and hopefully add another couple of trophies too. Retaining the title is the top priority for me though.
