Transfer Deadline Day Will Now Finish Both Earlier & Later This Year
Friday, 5th Jun 2015 08:29

Sky Sports reporters are today thinking there is a God after it was announced that from now on the deadline time for transfers will be brought forward from the usual midnight.

The deadline time for transfers on the final day of the transfer window will no longer be midnight but 5pm in the evening.

This will be warmly welcomed by the Sky Sports reporters who have spent the last few deadline days camped outside Premier League clubs stadium or training grounds and have increasingly been joined by a mob that has got rowdier each year.

But the safety of Sky Sports staff isn't the reason that the curfew for transfer deals has been brought forward, it is due to the fact that Champions League squads need to be submitted to UEFA by 11pm on that day.

Just why that would need to affect the usual midnight closing time is unclear apart from the fact that the four clubs in the Champions league would not be able to name any player in their squad not signed in the final hour is beyond me.

However it does make sense, if you are going to have a last minute scramble then it is far more sensible to have it in normal working hours, clubs have plenty of time to do deals, bringing forward the deadline 7 hours wont have any affect other than to bring these deals to the panic stage a few hours earlier than normal.

This years transfer window will therefore shut at 5pm on Tuesday 1st September this year, a day later than usual due to the fact that the window does not shut on a bank holiday which of course Monday 31st August is.

So there you have it, the transfer window will shut BOTH early & late this year.

A four week window would focus everyone's minds and stop all the dilly-dallying, rumour mongering and agent spin that goes on throughout the summer months. Clubs would have their strategies ready, buy quickly, cement their squads and get on with having a good pre-season instead of all the waste of time that goes on because nobody knows if half their team will leave or stay.

I wonder what 'arry Coontflaps will find to do on The Final Day of The Transfer Window ............ driving up and down Sandbanks with his window wound down and hassling OAP's into interviewing him? Triffic.
