No news is...pretty boring actually

After a couple of weeks of almost daily activity regarding potential ins-and-outs at Pride Park, it’s all gone a bit quiet, much to the apparent frustration of Chairman Adam Pearson, who has been interviewed briefly by the BBC.

You can listen to the interview on the BBC website and though I wouldn’t claim to be an expert, having listened to Pearson speak about targets John Brayford and Shaun Barker, I wouldn’t expect to see them in Derby shirts anytime soon, or at all to be perfectly honest. We know for sure that bids have been submitted and rejected, and from the tone of Pearson’s responses, it doesn’t seem too likely to me that the club is much interested in increasing their offers.

With Brayford I can well understand since we have a very good right back anyway, as Pearson points out, and you do have to wonder how much a defender from Blackpool can be worth considering the goals even we managed to stick past them last season. Obviously I would like to have both at Pride Park since our Nigel has clearly identified them as players who can help us but the club is being run with some reason for a change and they quite rightly aren’t going to throw away money in the manner of past regimes, leading to the standoffs we currently find ourselves in.

Meanwhile the transfer of Dean Moxey from Exeter City is looking increasingly likely to happen as both clubs are on record as saying that negotiations are moving along positively; the question seems to be where Moxey is actually going to play but that’s more of a worry for later. There’s also been little talk of Lee Croft signing on but that also seemed to be simply a case of time as the Rams are appearing to wait until Croft turns 24 so they don’t have to pay a fee under the Bosman ruling – hopefully that’ll get wrapped up soon as Croft strikes me as being a vital addition and one that could go a long way to propelling us up towards the business end of the table.

As usual, we’ll have to wait and see.
