Over the last few seasons it's become a recurring theme: inability to break down teams who set up defensively. Yeah we can point to the slightly odd team selection (although plenty on this site were calling for JWP to start at right back after his performance against Villa), but this kind of performance against the likes of WHU and Burnley is a historic problem. As is the defensive errors...

Are we the only team that sooner or later we concede the most stupid of goals.lt was a red card for sure on Djenepo a bad tackle, and the penalty was the correct call also.lf not for Macarthy it could of been a lot worse,
I don’t believe that Valery is the answer to the right back position he always looks out of position, the Ref was also doing us no favors but that’s the way it seems to go lately, well we have the pressure back on again after get some great results it seems we can’t stand prosperity.COYR.

Very entertaining if you like throw ins and fouls. Couldn't even beat that bunch of no hopers.

Now we can see why Ralph does not play Valery. Hope he does not play him again because he is ok going forward but he cant defend. McCarthy played a blinder today and we deserved a draw. It looked like Djenepo was a bit unlucky to be sent off. Now it looks like our squad is a bit thin.

What a rubbish game: newcastle were really terrible, especially in mid field, its just that, Alex McCarthy apart, we were not much if any better. I just got the impression that both sides rather wished they were anywhere other than playing football
Yan Valery has proven today he is a lamb in a new-born lamb’s clothing, Christ what an absurd goal for him to give away, especially after all than defending we did with 10 men.
But I’m not sure about the red card; yes Moussa trod on his foot but I couldn’t see how he could possibly have avoided it.
One final point: before the KO, we were plum bottom of the league for home games; guess where we are now....
Squeaky bum time it sure is...

One mistake and it was needless. Sorry to say but I think I understand why Valery doesnt play. Team did great and 1st half call were correct except the spike to Berty's Chest. That should have been red too. Dont care if he was pulling out of the tackle. Spikes up are spikes up. Alos the ref was horrible today. What I would like to know is when did they start to allow the refs on the field to see the video? This is the 1st time I think it happened in the Prem. Also, Boufal needs to sit. Once we went a man down, he caused us several major issues with his "trickery" in our half instead of just launching the ball. Oh well. Just pissed that we were so close to a well deserved draw and is was gone in a flash. Now we must beat Norwich.

Don't be too unkind to Valery. He hasn't played for months and apart from that disastrous moment he had an all right game. Plenty of other players made mistakes but were not punished with a goal. The team played as a team and it was good to see them consoling Moussa and also Valery. We might not like the result but it was a very spirited display. Before the red card we were well in control and afterwards defended courageously and with energy. Hate the result but pleased with the team.

We could have easily been three or four down by half time if it wasn't for our keeper and terrible Newcastle finishing. Nick will have a field day with our useless cb's and rightly so. They both make so many mistakes every single game it's embarrasing. Vallery obviously will take most of the blame and so he should, but Stephans and Bednerak simply can't mark a player. Stephens was right back to his worst today, his heading ability is so poor, his positioning is also dreadfull. I'm also sick and fed up with PEH thumping his chest at the end of another awfull defeat, why not playing a bit better instead? My engine is running if he needs a lift to Spurs [i'll only charge him the petrol]. Let's hope we can pick ourselves up for the Norwich game and can then breath a little easier.

Whether the eventual calls were right or wrong VAR spoilt this game as a spectacle. In neither case - Djenepo's foul or Boufal's handball - did any of the Newcastle players vigorously protest so, one can only assume that they did not think either a red card or a penalty should have been given. VAR adds nothing to a game and I do not believe it will survive other than to determine whether the ball has crossed the goal line. The delays in arriving at the "right" decision are making the whole game a farce but, sadly, this is a consequence of players being trained to question every whistle and simulate being fouled.

Still a bit drained. I haven't seen the replay yet but MD's tackle looked a lot like RB's in the Leicester game -100 times worse in slow motion. The penalty was really not clear cut. Both these incidents yet again highlights the failure of VAR's only purpose for existing.

Still created a great atmosphere and hats off to the players for a great performance. Valery made a mistake but it's a bit harsh to lay into himas he has only just come back. PEH and JWP played out of their skins. CA and MA really need to learn how to play together. Why does obafemi always Look to lay the ball off when he is brought on for his speed.

Alex McCarthy redeems himself.

Irritating game, hopefully this fires us back up.
