Boro Women: An introduction

In an exciting partnership with OurMFC, we're launching our coverage of Middlesbrough Women FC as the prepare for the Women’s Premier League Northern Division. Here, our designated Boro Women reporter, Ben Watts, introduces himself.

So here we are! Officially kicking off our coverage of Boro Women!

It’s an exciting time to be following the club with new signings not just on the pitch but in the backroom staff too; and here at BonkersForBoro we want to be your port and call for all things Boro Women.

To help with that we’ve partnered with OurMFC in order to bring you up-to-date and refreshing content centred around Middlesbrough W.F.C.

Before we begin I thought I’d better introduce myself.

So I’m Ben and I’ve been writing and presenting for OurMFC since November 2020 where we frequently put out Boro related content for the fans, by the fans.

I have produced numerous articles ranging from statistical breakdowns to more opinion based pieces and it is this that I want to bring to the table when covering Boro Women.

So why do I want to cover the women’s team more? Well, as I previously mentioned it’s an exciting time to follow this team.

17-year-old Abby Towers (a young defender with great promise) has recently signed from rivals Sunderland Ladies, adding to the previous additions of Jess Holder and Lauren Robson from Durham Cestria.

Holder offers versatility (something increasingly important in the modern game due to fixture congestion), being able to play both on the wing or at full back, while Robson can bring dynamism and work rate to the centre of the midfield.

With these additions the side is clearly intent on strengthening for the upcoming season in order to better last season's ninth place finish (albeit in a curtailed season) and reverse the current downward-trend of the club.

We believe they can, and whatever happens we’ll be there every step of the way, taking you with us on this wild ride hopefully to glory in the Women’s Premier League Northern Division.
