Saints At Yeovil The Verdict

Four points from two away games is acceptable, however it was still a case of two points dropped at Huish Park.

Lining up with the same starting line up as at Sheffield Wednesday, Saints made a lively start to the game and took a grip from the start, however despite having a lot of the play and dominating the game they still found it hard to turn domination into goals or even clear cut chances as Yeovil showed they were willing to dig in and fight for every ball.

The main surprise for the travelling fans was the introduction of Guly after the break, its fair to say that he hadnt shown anything much in his short periods so far, but he proved his doubters wrong and put in a good display including a well taken goal.

However this was one of the rare attempts Saints actually got on target, they hit the woodwork on more than one occasion, including a shot from Lambert in the first half which hit the underside of the bar and bounced out and a curling shot in injury time from Guly that struck the post, but in the main Yeovil blocked a lot of shots before they troubled the keeper.

At the other end Saints were generally tight, however Kelvin was having an off day, in the first half he allowed a tame shot to squirm through his grasp, but it luckily went wide and then in the second he came haring out of his goal to try and get a through ball down the wing that wasnt really his and was left stranded  by the Yeovil man who saw his shot/cross clip the bar.

Only strange thing was the failure to use a third substitute, obviously Nigel Adkins had his reasons, but with Lee Holmes on the bench who could have offered some measured balls into the box or Ryan Dickson who could have injected some pace in the final minutes I feel Adkins missed a trick there, especially with Holmes who since his great final twenty minutes against Colchester has not had any meaningful time on the pitch.

Another step in the right direction, however we need to find our killer touch, we really should have put Yeovil to the sword but didnt, however we can change all that with the visit of Bournemouth.
