Ex-Blues striker Pablo Couñago could be on the verge of joining Tenerife, who play in the Segunda División B, the third tier of Spanish football, having been released by Town at the end of last season.

Tenerife, who currently sit second in the table having been relegated last season, are believed to keen to add Couñago to their squad, but may be thwarted with the 32-year-old possibly having options at a higher level, perhaps even in the Primera División, come January and the reopening of the transfer window.

Couñago spent last season on loan at Crystal Palace having rejoined the Blues after leaving Malaga on a free transfer in the summer of 2007. He was previously at Portman Road between 2001 and 2005.

The Town crowd favourite made 147 starts and 95 sub appearances across his two spells, scoring 62 goals.
