A few weeks ago I worried about Saints current form, over the long and short term is was only just over a point a game average, now we are right bang on track.

From the very start of this season I stated that two points per game ratio was the key to success and thats still very much the case as we head into the quarter of the season, the past few weeks have seen us get our form back and we now stand fourth in the Championships current form guide with 12 points from our last six games and this is bang on what we need.

I would say that we now stand seven wins from automatic promotion, thats seven wins from our last thirteen games a task that it entirely doable, of course there are a few teams right up our rear ends, but they have to win their games in hand first, if they all did so, which is obviously not that realistic, but we cant assume that, then our biggest threat to a top two spot will be Reading, however if we put their task into perspective, is our target is seven from thirteen, to finsh above us they need to win nine from fourteen, a very tough task, Birmingham for example would need to win ten from their fourteen, now that is very tough.

So having set the target we need to get those wins under the belt as quickly as possible, every win we notch up makes it a little harder for our rivals both physically but mentally, we need to look how we hunted down Huddersfield last season, they didnt show us much of a chink in their armour for a long time, but we kept winning and they cracked, we need to be mentally tougher than the Yorkshire club where, every game is must win now.

IT still all comes down to that two point average per game though, keep focused on that and it will all come together.

BlackRod added 08:45 - Feb 27 You are the eternal optimist. Reading have averaged two and a half points per game over the last six and are the team in form. Relatively speaking they are much stronger than Huddersfield were last season. It doesn't help that our home fixture against them has been moved to a Friday, thereby depleting attendance. I reckon it will go to the wire and we may be praying for Birmingham to do us a favour on the last day.

I would say no at least not at that level, they have some difficult games ahead as well, away from home they have to go to West ham, Brighton, Birmingham and of course ourselves, they also have to play a lot of teams fighting for their lives, they have been on a good run, that cant be denied, but in their last six games four of the teams they have played have been average at best

Fordy added 11:48 - Feb 27 Realistically, the Reading game will probably be a real six-pointer and count as two wins. We might need only 6 wins if one of them is against Reading, but we might need 8 if we lose that one.

saintBob added 12:28 - Feb 27 Lots of twists and turns yet I'm sure. Anyone know what the injury is to Lallana? I hope Cardiff can pull themselves up after the CC Final for the game against the Hammers next Sunday, as they looked knackered. Even the Hammers can find themselves being dragged back into the play-off places, but everyone is going to be scrapping for the points and it looks like Saints are up for the fight. It's going to be a nail biting couple of months ahead. COYR!

Take one game at a time, I don't think setting a target is going to work this year as the competition is so tight, just concentrate on winning the next game which is always the most important one. TOGETHER AS ONE!

Jackflash1975 added 14:56 - Feb 27 I dont blame anyone for running the numbers game but there are to many elements to account for and thr end results hiven are simplistic. as hss just been said, play one game a time as this is what the other clubs are doing. Just do your own jobs and the end result will be inevitable.

Whatsforpud added 15:16 - Feb 27 Nick always views it from the bigger picture. I have difficulty in looking at more than the next result. in a way, it doesn't matter how few points you get, as long as it is more than the other teams. Having said that, a proper gap, as we had built up a while ago, would be a luxury.

SaintNick added 17:05 - Feb 27 Ironically enough when i did view it as taking every game as it comes, I was constantly told that I was wrong to demand a win, that we had plenty of time to get promotion given that we were top of the league and ridiculed for calling it a must win game, fact of the matter is that its over the next 13 games, we have to win 7 of them and ideally get around 25-26 points
