THE SPECIALIST Futebol de Salão training available to boys and girls in Swansea & Llanelli, has now reached Britain's most famous school, as pupils at BBC's Grange Hill gear up to enjoy the benefits of this coaching style.
Although there are more than 400 Brazilian Soccer Schools operating throughout the UK under the International Confederation of Futebol de Salão
(ICFDS), this is the first time that the pupils at Grange Hill have had the chance to follow in the footsteps of Pele, Ronaldo, Rivaldo and children across Swansea & Llanelli.
In last week's episode, children were told that they will be trying Futebol de Salão in their next PE lesson. This will not only improve the standard of football at the school, it also signifies the growing influence of this type
of training designed in improving the creativity, confidence and technical skills of all boys and girls who train this way.
Head coach of the LEGO Company sponsored Brazilian Soccer Schools in Swansea & Llanelli, Steven Thomas, said: "We have been working hard throughout the region to offer boys and girls aged 5-16 the opportunity to learn how to play football in the same style as the five times World Champions. Grange Hill has always been one of the leading and most respected children's TV shows which prides itself on its realistic portrayal of issues surrounding children - and Futebol de Salão is rapidly becoming an integral part of school sport.
"Futebol de Salão is a wonderful option for children with an interest in sport, and provides a structured training programme to enable them to become more complete footballers. It is, however, a shame that the school is fictional, as each year we stage the LEGO Futebol de Salão Schools Cup tournament, and it would be great for a school from Swansea or Llanelli to meet Grange Hill in the finals!"
Meanwhile, the Brazilian Soccer Schools are celebrating this week following the Man of the Match performance by friend of the International Confederation of Futebol de Salão (ICFDS) Jermaine Jenas on his full England debut.
Jenas has shown his support of Futebol de Salão coaching by attending Brazilian Soccer School sessions with his best friend Craig Anderson, an established coach at one of the schools.
His debut was a wonderful showcase of the talents he possess and he is very much a role model for the type of player Brazilian Soccer Schools are working to produce.
Head and founder of the ICFDS, Simon Clifford, said: "We are delighted that Jermaine is such a fan of our coaching. He has heard a lot about it through Craig and is a keen advocate of this way of training young players to follow him into the England fold.
"He is a player we have admired since he first came to prominence at Forest and are delighted at his progress in Newcastle. He fully deserved the call up and will be an integral part of future England sqauds. We look forward to his next visit and the kids can't wait to learn from England's newest midfield ace."
