Wonder What A Chip On Shoulder Is Really Like?

The Biggest Pile Of Sh te Ever Read

I won't make too much mention of the lifting of pictures without due credit as that would be plain silly but I have to take stock with a few of their comments in their match preview.

First off, the most obvious statement to make is that promotion or the championship will not be decided on Tuesday night at Hull. In my mind it won't even give an indication of who will win the title - the only thing that can be certain is that one of the two teams will come out of the fixture currently on top of the tree. With a massive 35 games (or 76%) of the season still to go. I can't remember too many titles being decided before September is out can you?

I also don't see too many Swansea fans, least of all the club itself, crying 'unfair disadvantages' because of the injuries. Indeed our injury list is somewhat better than it was two weeks ago and most of the support and club has accepted that it is a fact of life it happens and we get on with it.

The one man team issue. I don't remember seeing that as an issue. Sure we have the Nationwide League's leading goalscorer in our ranks but that does not make a one man team when you consider that Duffy, Britton, Robinson, Wilson, Nugent, Durkan, Maylett and Thomas have all notched goals so far in our league campaign. Must be the longest name for one man that I have ever read. Especially when you compare it to Hull and their list of just 8 goalscorers so far this term.

And then we don't become the most cultured side in the discipline stakes either. Hmmm this is an interesting one when you consider Hull have 13 yellows to our 17 albeit we have 1 red card to their none. Hardly Arsenal's disciplinary problems is it.

The whole preview on the Hull site is of a man who is bitter. A man that hates the Welsh and most of all Swansea (Wrexham are a big Welsh club now!) and is still bitter from the fact that we beat them 4-2 on the last day of last season to cap another season of underachievement from a club that is constantly being billed as a pre-season promotion favourite and all too often fails to live up to that billing. So maybe he is more concerned about their potential to slide from grace than ours?

If we lose tomorrow night then so be it. I'll still be more than happy with our league position eleven games in and so I would imagine will 99.9% of the Swansea support. We weren't expected to be there this season by most and although automatic promotion would be a great achievement I can't see too many moans and groans ensuing if we end play offs or just below?

This game clearly means alot to the small minded individual who wrote the Hull preview which gives us an indication as to where he really thinks we will end the season. And maybe the chip on his shoulder was too hot for his liking which is why he put so much venom into his writing (am I the only one envisaging steam from his ears as he types?) I'd love to get a result up there tomorrow night but I ceretainly won't be viewing it as our season over if we lose. I wonder if the preview man will be thinking the same if we do take the three points?

I certainly see this as our toughest game of the season so far but certainly not one that will give us an indication of where the season ends. And certainly not with the hatred that is there from the Hull end even if they do pretend that we don't matter. I'll view our final league position when we have played 46 games and then make a judgement on whether we have championship or promotion credentials or not.

One thing is sure that those that have seen us this season have seen what we are capable of. The five teams that have left the Vetch pointless will have a decent indication and underestimate us at your peril. Whether we win or lose (or even draw) tomorrow this is a good side that has been put together and one defeat will not be the end of us. No matter how much Hull man would like to see it happen.

Football fans will always be biased but you know you are making an impression when you are playing a side that is hundreds of miles away from you and they make so much of the one game. The division is sitting up and taking notice whether your man up North will admit it or not.

And as for who is the best - judge at the end of the season - hope for their sakes it's them as we won't be too disappointed if we end up runners up will we folks?
